Hey everyone,

Off topic, but I'd like to share the trailer that was just released for "ALTITUDE", a thriller/horror creature feature. It stars Jessica Lowndes (90210) and Julliana Guill (Friday the 13th).
This is a lower rez version but hopefully an HD version will be released soon.

This was my feature feature that I shot last April 2009 on Super35mm 3-perf Panavision Millenium XL's. Despite being 80% in a 7-passenger plane, it was an extremely challenging film to shoot.
I'm currently shooting my 4th feature and have two more this year.

Originally it was supposed to be released theatrically in limited theaters but Anchor Bay Entertainment purchased it and it's not going straight to DVD/Blu-ray (Being released Oct 26th).

Enjoy.

You did a great job on what must have been some very difficult lighting
situations. So Congrats on this one and your upcoming shows..are they
all being shot in Vancouver..seems like alot of production still going on
up there.

Unique concept here..we've seen teens in a remote cabin before..but
never teens in an airplane cabin. Did this film get a digital intermediate
treatment ?

Hi Steve,

Yes, to shoot in a 40sqft plane with 5 actors, myself operating a bulky camera, and my focus puller was not easy for space reasons. Other challenges were lighting to make it look realistic and for actors not to block each other's light as there are only so many windows. Finding new angles and trying to make the film interesting for 90 minutes was tough but I think we pulled it off. We dealt with large ritter fans, rain towers, lighting strikes, a massive custom built 270deg greenscreen, etc.

The budget of this film was between $5-6 million and there is 600+ VFX shots. I think unheard of at this budget level, especially in Canada.

Yep, we had 6 days in the Lustre suite. Shoutout to my colorist Claudio Sepulveda from Technicolor. He did a fantastic job.

The 2nd feature, "Beyond the Black Rainbow" was shot in Vancouver on Panavision 35mm 2-perf GII's and 3rd feature "Below Zero" was shot in Alberta on RED MX's. The film I'm shooting right now, "The ODDS" is in Vancouver and also on RED MX's.

looks great Norm!
did you guys build a fuselage interior? or did you bring a real airplane into the stage?

Thanks!

We purchased two scrap fuselages, one which we attached to a crane to hang vertically to shoot some scenes and the other we used to shoot most of the film, which we obviously modified with the production designer to make it more film friendly...where different hatches, windows, rear, front, etc...could be 'quickly' flown in and out as desired. The production designer created interior from scratch to match real planes (the scrap ones were just barebones with nothing in it except a beat up frame).

Congrats man! I saw the trailer for Altitude a couple days ago, and it looks interesting. I wasn't expecting the lovercraftian twist in it, so that'll make it fun to see.

I look forward to checking it out.

Congratulations Norm. Very, very nice work - first feature or not. Great compositions and lighting and all in a very demanding situation.

Hi Norm,

I watched it on DVD the other night, great job! Amazing work lighting it so well in such a small space, and not being afraid of the dark! Always inspires me to see features out of Vancouver,

Bryant
