Alternatives to After Effects?

I've been wondering if there are good alternatives out there yet to After Effects?

I work with FCPX to edit, and it meets my needs for how basic my projects are for my clients.

I know Motion exists, but I haven't really looked into it based on the general consensus from others that Apple "gave up" on it years ago (if others find this not to be true, I'm all ears).

My needs for motion graphics work right now honestly are explainer videos, but if this video below is "level 10", I only need to create something that's "level 4 or 5"

From everything I’ve heard Apple has not given up on Motion and have extensively integrated it with FCP X.
Might still look into Motion and a character animation plug in like Mpuppet that an be used in both Motion and FCP X.

I have used mPuppet. It mostly works fine. Can be a little glitchy but for the price, nothing too much to complain about. I also own this one as well.
