What are some good, cheaper alternative kits to the RED Bricks? I won't e flying with them or anything.

Other batteries are fine; I've been very happy with the large capacity globalmediapro batteries.

If you have no batteries from before, I would second looking into AntonBauer style batteries. Globalmedia sells those as well, and last time I checked they were even cheaper than the V-lock ones. Their chargers are totally fine as well. High priced chargers only make sense when you do a lot of shooting. Try to get a charger that can charge all batteries at the same time (i.e. not a sequential one), otherwise the charge might not complete during sleeping time.

Yes, PL mount lenses are mechanical. The birger mount is a smart mount and has the very cool option of having remote wired or wireless control of your Canon lenses.

You can zoom in to 1:1 view on the R1, but as on all current RED cameras, this function only works during preview, i.e. not during record or playback.

The base pack is a good starting pack and gives you the option of fixing the camera both to a tripod or using it handheld. Though it is not exactly a light-weight package. There are plenty of 3rd party options, but for simplicity the starter pack is a good choice. You can also check reduser for sale section, as a lot of former owners are clearing out their cupboards these days ;)

With a bit of ingenuity, you can build your own customized bits and bobs, such as a way to connect the battery plate directly to the camera - much more compact than going the rod route. Really depends on your working style.

Be sure to order a couple of extra bolt packs when you order your camera.

Have fun!

I don't believe global media pro voids your warranty. I think RED would have to prove the batteries actually damaged the camera which I haven't heard of. Chances are the battery will stop providing enough juice before it breaks the camera. Using an AC outlet is probably more likely to cause damage to a camera than a battery is, especially if the country you are in is prone to voltage spikes.

Well, one time I rented a MX and it came with 2 red brick and 2 backups no branded... Perhaps those chinese ones. They also worked but no level indicator on menu and also it didn't last long.

The batteries designed for RED have a chip built inside them which is why they give the percentage of battery life, many V-mounts don't but they will still work.

Hi guys. I have a couple of more questions.
So I am currently only using REDvolts with my Scarlet. I am thinking about buying either the REDbrick or the GMP v-mount batteries. I would prefer to stay with the REDbrick since it is from RED. I likely would end up buying the battery belt clip to keep weight light on the camera body itself when I am hoing hand held.

The problem that I see is that the RED charger is $550 in the RED store. The GMP charger looks to be $165 (which is significantly less)

I am thinking about buying the GMP charger to use with a REDbrick.
Has anyone used the GMP charger to charge a REDbrick and more importantly has there been any adverse effects of this?

Thanks

RED Bricks are IMO a very good deal, even so they are not as good as the Bebob and Blueshape, you can't bit the price.

Bebob I love, but they are extremely heavy, even so beside the high cell they are super strongly built to withstand great falls, and mine have and still work.

However the main reason why I bough in to this more expensive battery system such as the Bebob and the Blueshape, was not only because they are some of the absolute best Batteries out there, with longer lasting power and high cell recharges to allow for incredible long hold of charges, even months after I still see charge in this batteries, just great, however the main reason I bought i to them was because they offered small 100WH Air Safe transportation, and a super High Wh with the 210Wh on the Blueshape, and 90Wh on the Bebob's.

BTW: If you were to choose Blueshape I am selling a kit, giving an insane deal on a 5 Pack with charger: http://www.reduser.net/forum/showth...ock-Battery-Pack-(Blueshape)-Europe-preferred

FWIW - I found a practically brand new RED Brick charger on eBay for $300. Might be worth shopping around.

How about these?? http://videoproshop.biz/ I worked with a guy who used the 150w RED compatible one for his scarlet and they are sooo light while powering the thing for around 2-3 hours! Anyone else use these on the R1MX?

I've seen a few venders that pretty much offer the same rebranded battery. If you look at the GMP batteries they are almost completely identical. That being said, these seem like a good deal. You have a local vender offering support and a warranty and it cost just a little more than the GMP. But GMP is only paid through wire transfer, or at least did back when I bought which also means wire transfer fees and i think you still have to pay shipping so the amount you would save is really negligible.
