  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

can anyone provide more specifics on this? really interested how this would work (focus on AF-S nikkors, aperture control on no manual ring lenses) and what's the release timing.
i have all nikon glass (looking to mount it) and really like what birger/impero are capable of, but dont want to go canon glass.

The one- (coincidentally- since Allstar just announced his new product today) that will allow working with PL and canon. Since the Reduser "heart attack" I lost my subscription and can not find the thread that involves it.
 
What is the deal with voiding the warranty with some aks? If I use a dumb mount on the camera, does it have a possibility of voiding the warranty? Or is that just a problem with mounts with electric connections? The same question for other aks, how do I know if it is OK to use them? Is there a master list somewhere, or is it less of a problem than this thread seems to indicate?
 
I might be exceptionaly dense, but is there a way I an use Canon lenses on my Red without voiding the warranty? Birger? And can one switch back and forth between birger and PL relatively easy? And does the Birger REALLY ship with a viewfactor knob? Ive had a FF on order from viewfactor for ages with no dice. Why should Birger be able to ship them?


Please help a poor ignorant soul with delightful L series lenses laying around. Id love to use my fabulous glass, but I dont want to lose out on an Epic upgrade path or make it impossible to use PL mount lenses. At the moment Ive got the stock Nikon mount on my cam...
 
Andrew, yes - using the Birger mount (after having received the paperwork, which is a straightforward process) does not void your warranty.

Switching between Birger and PL is currently not simple - but that is very likely to change in the near future, as Erik is just putting the finishing touches on his forthcoming PL adaptor for the Canon mount. Once finished, it will be shipped to RED to get their approval and then swapping between Canon and PL will take 5-10 minutes.

Eric has announced future plans for a nikon version with electronic control like the canon as well as I believe the 4/3 format. Martin is correct, the red warranty will not be voided if you follow the instructions regarding reporting. Do note that if you pinch the i-cable and cause a short (or for that matter any damage caused through installation or use) red is not responsible and will charge you for repairs which to me seems perfectly reasonable.

On the ViewFactor 'knob' issue Birger OEM's them from VF to re-sell. VFS have had the knob nailed down for some time; it seems to be the motors that are the cause of the delay.
 
Yeah, that happened during the Great Reduser Heartattack earlier this year. Unfortunately there is no automatic fix to it, so if someone knows the "new" link, please PM me, or make a comment here and I'll update the original post.

Did some minor updates

Added link to Pana mount ET, OptiTek proLock, moved Lesniak to "has beens". Added section on Future plans.

Haven't heard anything about the Lesniak in probably more than half a year and have thus moved it to the "has beens" section. If the mount is still alive, please do let me know. (Which is true for any change/add-on/news in general: let me know, and I'll try to update as soon as I can.)

I try to follow the Birger thread, but due to its volume that is not always possible. Has the Birger received a green light from RED regarding use of ipin, or is the o.k. still only for the dumb mount?

Anyone has pricing info on the mounts that lack price, e.g. OptiTek?
 
I have come across two new RED One mounts being sold on Ebay.

I have heard good things about the second seller. However, he says that using the mount does not violate the RED warranty. He also says that some lenses, but not all, will fit. I believe that is why he lists the internal dimensions.

Has anybody tried these and/or are familiar with these sellers?

The first one I would stay away from. And not only because they are calling the RED One a camcorder.

It is NOT able to FOCUS TO INFINITY** (excellent for close shots).

All automatic functions (like auto-focus, etc) DO NOT WORK.

The second mount you mention, the OCT19 is made by Doug Underdahl and you'll find the info about it in the original post of this thread.
