my primary projects to shoot on red is on concerts. i need at least 5 hours of battery life for that. i heard that red battery can only last up to 3 hours. i've come across this endura (links below) batteries that can last up to 4.7 hours. my question are:

1. can i mount this battery on red and what other cable i must purchase to successfully mount it?

2. is it possible to mount two of these batteries in hot swap manner and what accessories i must purchase to do so. (and from which vendor?)

3. is it possible to mount, two battery set up in a microShoulderMount?

4. will red be too hot to be operated in that continues 5 hours operation?

Take a look at the SwapPack by Action Products -- should be available in a few weeks. You can mount two batteries and swap one out at a time so the camera doesn't need to power down.

To answer #4, you can run the camera for a long time without worrying about it overheating - Jarred has one that's been running continuously for months now minus reboot time for firmware updates.

I think the only problem you might run in to is that a handheld config is HEAVY. Good luck!

are there any batteries that can just be used on the red without modification, such as the sony v-lock type?

We just used standard V-lock SWIT batteries from SIM VIDEO for 6 weeks with no worries. We also had their dual hot swap system so we never had to re-boot. We also put a V-mount on the drive and were able to use a single battery and "V-mount" the drive where you would normally mount the second battery. Good system...but heavy.

I use the swits LiIon 160Wh , they´re fine , cheap and reliable. Runtime is just a bit over 3hrs.

AB released the CINE VLC or so batteries with 560Wh and 280Wh thats a runtime of about 5 on the small and 8-9hrs on the big battery, but they´re like Arri Blocks to carry arround extra from an assistant, and not to be put on camera.

What about custom battery packs?

Battery packs are easy to make and 12v chargers are easy to buy/make.

I'd use these. Their far superior to anything on the market. but the downside is they're still in development and the only way to get them is through developer kits.

Still, 3.3V at 2.3 Ah is great and 6 cells for $129 isn't that bad either. Oh yeah, and each cell is 70 grams!

Has anyone used Globalmediapro batteries? They are 190 Wh and cost 327 USD. http://www.globalmediapro.com/do/product/1798

They also have a model that can be charged without a separate charger - just plug it into the mains. Sounds like a smart concept. 130 WH, 381 USD. http://www.globalmediapro.com/do/product/3245

I had three previous models once, and they worked alright on a DVcam camera. One battery died after about a year's use, the other two still work fine 4 years later.

(I am not affiliated with Globelmediapro, btw.)

I'm using the Global Media Pro 190a 's with a Anton Bauer / Red Lemo plate.

The Good:
1. Cheap 4 190's and 4 way Charger = $1400
2. Charger really is simultaneous...
3. Power taps built into the batteries.
4. Seems to Run the camera as long as the Red batt's.
5. Light in weight.

The Bad:
1. No time or percentage display in viewfinder
2. The company is in New Zealand and was not great in communicating shipping delays.

We're probably going to buy another set... maybe 90's for taking on planes and to have a spare charger.
