  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Alright, what do I need...?

So I just came to the conclusion that camcorders are no longer a sufficient option for me; came across the Red Scarlet a while ago and has been hooked ever since. Now, I understand that you can build your own camera, so if I am to use Canon EF and EF-S lenses on a full frame body, what are the essential parts I'll need, and what can I do without, and what will the price end up at? Thanks in advance!

Besides the brain and the appropriate lens mount, you'd need power, recording module and a monitoring option such as an LCD or EVF for a barebones set up. I would love to tell you the price but RED haven't divulged any info on accesories; only the brains prices are public knowledge so far.

I hope this helps...welcome to REDUSER! Stick around, have a chat and the facts you seek should come up in time :)

Take into account that now RED has published the "Complete Kit" for Scarlet 2/3" 8x FIXED, at $3750.

"The complete kit, with power, finder and media module is targeted at $3.75K."

I'd say that it includes a discount for buying the kit, so it might be a bit more expensive.
About the power, I suppose that they'll include the REDhandle... Unless there's a way to control the camera from the viewfinder.

Sorry for the late reply, been away for a while. :detective2: Ah, I see, thanks a lot both of you. Now, how does autofocusing work, if at all, when using Canon or Nikon lenses?
Thanks!

I see. Something I didn't think about until now; EF-S lenses can't be used on full frame Canon bodies since they are designed for cropped sensors. So a FF35 sensor will be useless because of all the vignetting right? I guess a S35 sensor would be a better choice?
