Hey everyone, here's History's ALONE cinema piece - in theatre's NOW across the country!!! Many of you may have seen this in front of JURRASIC WORLD over past two weekends!!

This was our first Dragon shoot!!

We shot the Interviews with LLO at 6KHD @ 640 with a Contax 50 1.4 and 100 F2 (both MM) - both at an F2. We used some Classic Soft (1/4 and 1/2). This was our FIRST Dragon shoot, and it sort of blew me away. The dynamic range, the skin tone - it all just looked AMAZING. A big leap from MX. Jake Blackstone graded our dailies (as always).

History's On Air team cut this in-house and did an AMAZING job. They are a blast to work with!

We saw this at a Loews IMAX theatre this weekend, and WOW - the interviews looked even cleaner than on Youtube. On the big screen, I was very impressed with how Dragon + Contax combo held up, even downscaled to 1080.

Not sure what the SHOW shoots on, presumably some GoPros and possibly C300 for extra nature-broll.

Hope you enjoy. Alone premiered last week to GREAT ratings, so has been fun to be a part of it's success!

I love that blue'ish look through the tree's, feels lonely and frigid/wet. Makes me really want to see this. Also i like the mix of really high end footage with low grade footage, I find that very compelling: the high end footage on the dragon is the antagonists (the environment) perspective, while the low end footage is from the protagonists (reality participant) perspective.

BRAVO Mr. Morrison!!!!!!!!!!

nice nick

Thanks guys so much.

And yeah, Patrick that's a time tested strategy - HIGH end interviews elevating nitty-gritty reality footage. That mix, you're right, is very compelling. And that blue grade on the reality shots is great right?! Brian, History's Senior writer/producer who created this piece, actually graded those shots himself...which is very unusual, and admirable (kids these days!!).

Again - thanks to all for the kind comments. I really appreciate it!!

I saw it on the big screen over the weekend. The footage looked great and there was definitely a nice contrast between the individual cams and the main cams, in fact that works very well as a show element in my opinion. I think I even mentioned that to my son or maybe he mentioned it. Congrats on such a prestigious placing of your work!

We were actually in a Regal Cinemas "RPX" room and it was a bit disappointing. I found the picture was pretty much the same as a regular screen offers. I think in this case the only real bonus RPX might have offered was that the screen was the largest one in the multiplex. We only chose it because it was the only non-3D screen available when we were buying tickets.

That trailer prompted a discussion my son and I had on the drive home. We talked about how it may be difficult to sustain viewer interest without the interaction between players that a Survivor offers. The trailer and name both indicate that there will be no burning of underwear, no stealing of shoes, and no rice discarding amongst the contestants.

Thanks Med. Yeah, the Dragon interviews were only in this sneak peak trailer. The show itself appear to be mostly GoPro and b-roll shot from heli and affar on larger camera platforms - I'm guessing C300.

You bring up a good point about the benefits (for drama) of the Survivor format vs the Alone format. I suppose an argument for the Alone format is hasn't been done as much? But I agree, programming will need to work hard to sustain audience interest. Fingers crossed they figure that out! So far ratings appear to be pretty good!
