  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Allstar mount

If you don't need an electronic mount and want to keep your warranty while having the option to use a variety of lenses with different mounts, this is imho the best, most solid mount out there (and I've tried pretty much all the legal ones).

Have you tried Nikon ProLock? Does the Allstar have positive locking?
Iris ring for G lenses?:001_cool:

have you tried the OptiTek Prolok nikon mount? How's it compare to Prolok? Have to say i've been pretty happy with Prolok. Would like to hear back on comparison if you have one.

I had an opitek pro lock mount.. Just sold it to help pay for my allstar...

Opitek mount is a freaking really good mount.. Jacek did a great job on it, it holds the lens tightttttt. BUTTTTT I use zeiss ZF, and PL mount lenses.. (no need for iris control)
and I need the ability to go from my zeiss zfs, to say, a red 18-85 or optimo 12:1... so this is why im going with the allstar mount now..
the allstar mount (which i havent tried yet.. this is speculation) is more robust for a "professional" film shoot... Ill look less silly if my zeiss ZF's resemble PL mount, and I can quickly switch to PL mount...

Both mounts are great within their specific needs... I just couldnt keep changing my mounts every 10 seconds.. One shoot wants PL.. the next day im on a zeiss zf so on.. cant do that anymore..so thank god for the allstar:)

but hats of to jacek and his mount.. its a great mount if your sitting on nikons all day

Jacek,

IMS Nikon Pro mount is more than 3 years old.

Sorry but they (P+S Technik) were the first on the market with so called Nikon F mount (dumb) with a lock.

Guys,

I'm not a MOD but I think it is uncool to troll on threads after all ZAKAREE did was say that he already purchased a product and was going to report back to the community.

For the record there is a

PROLOCK mount made by Jacek at Optitek
IMS mount by PS Technik
RED Nikon Mount (underdahl mount)

Zak. Look forward to hearing your report. I have found that with some Nikon glass, it might be wise to have the iris rings de-clicked because they are quite difficult to get at with the mount installed.

Really!!!!

Really!!!!

Actually Sanjin, Vista Vision was first about 40 years ago...
And IMS is almost exact copy of it....NO iris control for G lenses....
My Prolock system locks the lenses differently than both. It's a lot more gentle on the lens mount, there is no metal to metal grinding, it causes less wear than even the original Nikon F mount on Nikon cameras.
I never merely copy other designs- I improve upon them, even if it takes a completely new approach like in this case...

Yeah... ANYWAYYSSSS..

Yes David, my ZF's have the full duclos mod.. declicked, geared, 80mm fronts...
the whole shebang.
I just got a brand new 18mm zf (700 bucks!!)
Its going into duclos as soon as it arrives..

my only bum out on the 18 is (besides it being a 3.5)
is it has a 87mm front end on it:( so its going to be weird with my MB.. might have to get a 100mm-90mm bellows.. but Switching out bellows just for a 18mm is stupid.... anyone have a good idea?

Sounds like a great Kit ZAK. You have plenty of talent so I wouldn't be to worried about iris rings if you already had them de-clicked. IT will take a short time to get used to if you have been using the RED mount, but it's a very good professional build and an interesting system.

Maybe just a dedicated lens hood for the 18? Or a less expensive screw in type MB.

David

Are you kidding?

Are you kidding?

I think theres a line between promoting your product and takeing a whack at others products.
Where exactly did I take a "whack" and at which product?
If you are referring to my posts that is...
I stand behind everything I posted because it's the truth and I can prove it.
I've done this for 25 years and living in Los Angeles have seen all the toys...:boxing_smiley:

OK, I should have clarified: imho the best mount that allows multiple lens mounts.

I've tried the Alesniak Mount, Birger Mount, RED Nikon mount, modified RED Nikon mount and the A-mount.

If you only use Nikon lenses, the Pro-lock mount comes with high recommendations from people I trust.

David,
im wondering if i made a little stick type thing for the iris..
(you know how the zf's have that little metal thing sticking up on the iris?)
making a elbow type stick to make it easier to change aperture.. i dont know.. a thought...

Ill ask duclos if he has the front ends to step all my lenses to 95... but then ill have to buy a new step down for my mb.. uggghhh oh well

That is a great idea for a mod. Let me know if you end up doing that. It's like the screw in zoom stick you see on some manual zoom lenses.

on the MB, just use neoprene.

ill make the mod once I get the mount...
as for mattebox goes.. uggg Im turning my mmb-2 into a clip on instead of getting a lmb-5... so this is going to get weird for the 18mm..

as is, is it hard to change your iris with the allstar?
with my pro lock it was really difficult. and I didnt want to use the control on the prolock..

Yeah.

The ring is set far back on the Nikon glass. The locking part of the mount sticks out so you have to reach in to open and close.

You notice it more if they are not de-clicked, but you have to reach in to get at it.
