  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Allstar A-mount system is available! --with REDONE approved!

Okay, Allstar, I will give up on Sigma. Do you know any other Spherical Fish-eye with F-mount with iris ring?

Tom from Allstar had visited me and worked on the measurement for producing the Epic A-mount. Hopefully he can come up with the mount soon!

Hi everyone!
Sorry that It's been a long time I haven't update.
Here, I bring 2 news.

1. Epic mount base for A-mount will be available in September.
But I cannot have exact date, because after it's done, it will be sent to Red team for approval.
The price will be in between $200-$300 USD.

2. About G adapter, I know some of you have been waiting for a long time, I apologize for that. I have a test version now, it is very close to the final product. But some back shapes of some lenses don't fit with it, such as Nikon 10.5mm, 24-120, and 70-200. so it's why it is not the final version.
I will adjust It and make it to fit with more lenses. Here I am going to show you this testing version, since it is very close to the final one.

As you see, on the iris ring, you can mark F-stop and datum mark. I was planning to mark F-stop on iris ring through laser, so that you only have to make the datum point. But, it doesn't work, because the small lever in the lens rear is different on each type/brand of lenses.

Some lenses' small lever move less, and some move more; Some have 9 stops and some have 8 stops. It is very complicate. So the best solution is, mark it by yourself. And you can have have very accurate F-stop.
(so I can tell you with whisper, those Nikon Mounts with iris control which had marked the F-stop on them are not gonna work.)

And how can we mark the F-stop by ourselves?
You can refer to another lens with iris ring, and use the light meter function on digital camera.
For example, using Sony F3, to assemble ZF 25mm F2.8 lens, and put a white polystyrene board in front of the lens, and then turn on the light meter, I got different percentage under different iris ring, like this:
IMG_1022.jpg

F2.8 with ND 1, 60%
F4 with ND 1, 44%
F5.6 with ND 1, 32%
F8 , 59%
F11 , 43%
F16, 31%
F22 , 23%

Then I put 14-24 g lens, adjusting the iris ring and mark F stop according to the percentage. Of course, if you refer wit T-stop lens, you will get T-stop on your G adapter.
it might be too complicate to explain with words, I will make a video to show you later.

This is the most accurate way to get correct exposure if using G lenses. Other G-mounts/adapter on the market now cannot give you the correct iris F-stop. Unless the electronic Nikon mount are appeared.

You can choose the testing version, which is $170 usd. The final product will be about $220.

Fantastic

Congratulation Tom!

depend what lens you are using. but still it will cover EPIC.

Ah, the square one on the left, looks like the one for the Epic, but does Epic A-mount require this adapter ring?

Is it Stainless steel Tom?

Just A-mount for REDONE version needs this adapter. Allstar Universal Mount (item code: AM-un) could attach to mount base directly.

EPIC mount base is made of 7075 aluminium.

looking really really nice.

so I have to get the epic base mount and the universal mount, or epic base mount, a-mount for RED ONE and the adapter ring?

I'm confused about this as well. Just need to know what will be the least amount of hardware and dollars required to get Nikon G lenses to work on an Epic.

I read it as... if you already have A Mount for Red One then you need the Epic base mount and adapter ring. If you don't yet have an A Mount, you could just order the A Mount Universal and the Epic Base mount (no adapter ring).
