  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

"All That Glitters" (2010) Feature Film

I love the look and understand your funds were limited but I'm not sure why you promote it as micro-budget. It doesn't come across that way in the trailer. Is there a marketing strategy at work here?

Thanks for the offer Michael! I PM'd you!

Frank, yeah I'm not sure if the two are related really, I'm not so much promoting it as stating the fact, and actually, we'd technically fall into the 'no-budget' category hehe (ie: under 25k).

But it is just a label, and I think the way a film comes across should never be tied down by its budget or lack-there-of. When you can guess a film's budget accurately from watching it, as you can many films in the micro-budget bracket, I think that's a problem.

Thanks again for the support and comments guys! The TS Eliot quote is pretty famous, and in the original the poem it's repeated three times so we used that for a structural theme (can't claim that the repetition was our idea or anything, ha!).

The teaser does a lot of teasing without much telling, that's for sure (but that is indeed the intent). We were trying to go for something a bit subdued, simple and elegant, not too poppy or flashy and a bit like a lullaby with a subtle undercurrent of darkness, ha! And Sid you hit the nail on the head, MB Looks was exactly what we used. We don't plan on using it for the film itself but it was handy at the time, hehe! Redcine-X will do the trick and then some, all we really need to do is curve it away from the 'milk' you get from Redspace and balance everything, but that's still a few weeks down the road.

We're days away from picture lock and I'll be heading to LA to do the 5.1 mix throughout April.

Oh yeah, church scene: practicals and one 600w LED panel from Cool-Lights with CTO on it :D.

Glad you guys like what you saw so far...the very, very tip of the iceberg, I can assure you...

Thanks. Are you saying the 'looks' are too extreme? Cliche versions of what Hollywood colour treatment might be? Can you dial the looks back?

I did my first 'pass' with Redrushes and got the colours a bit closer to what I want. Not sure I can afford a full colourist--wish I could. Didn;t know if MB cold be an option. In a perfect world I'd find a whiz on Color.

(btw - I have a feature that picture locked and I'm inching along to the final colour stage)

Thanks Chris

Yes a lot of the presets are pretty cliche'd, look at "Berlin," "Dream Look" and the infamous "Blockbuster" for the most overused...

But yes you can dial them back and get some more subtle looks, the amount of control you have and the robust options make it a very good final pass CC program, and it's also very user friendly.

It's easy to get carried away with though so you have to always keep yourself from doing something that may look cool, but doesn't work with your content.

Best of luck with the feature!

Thanks for the input. ( i see now that I quoted the wrong post from you. Obviously you figured out what I was referring to. :)

Cheers,
Chris
