Hey everyone,

I don't know where, but I thought I read somewhere that all brains will have both an HDMI output on the unit as well as a stereo headphone jack input.

Can anyone confirm/deny this for me?
I tried searching, couldn't find what I was looking for.

Thanks,
-J

definitely have seen photos with the HDMI port on the back of the brain, and i'm going to assume that there is infact a headphone jack as well though I can't recall 100% I would be very surprised if that was left out.

This is from the november 30th announcement:

So from left to right that is -

Headphones. HDMI. RS422. Sync (Video and Shutter). Gigabit Ethernet. D.C Power in.

And, it's in reference to this picture:

So... as of november 30th, 2009... yes :)

Thanks for the picture. It would seem like that's a headphone jack for monitoring audio, correct?
Not a 3.5mm stereo input jack like I was hoping for.

Anyone know?

................On a side note, I can't believe I typed HTMI....

I believe there is a stereo input jack on top of the brain, but I can't find the post. I have to say that someone stands to make a lot of money if they can develop an HDMI cable that is as production friendly as BNC cable. I would love to not have to add an HD-SDI module for basic monitoring.

Yeah, I definitely remember that being said. I just can't find where for sure.

Not having a stereo input jack on the brain will change my plans a lot...

Two 3.5mm inputs on the front of the brains. They're single channel inputs, but use a stereo socket so you can pass balanced audio into them with the right cable.

I guess I"m not understanding what exactly you are asking. you keep saying input, but you referenced headphones in your original post... which would be output.

all brains have two inputs on the front of them, and the brain is spec'd "two independent microphone level channels, balanced input circuits, 48v phantom power, digitized at 24bit-48khz"

later,
Jason

A headphone-sized 3.5mm audio input.
Sorry.

"Clever girl..."

Nice, that's what I'm looking for. You have any pictures of this?

a locking HDMI cable would be nice... but certainly any length of HDMI will be annoying. So unless you are simply monitoring near/on the camera for the A.C. or Operator then the mini converter would be ideal.

Perhaps the AJA HA5 HDMI to SDI mini converter with a very short (and strain relieved) HDMI cable to the brain and SDI out to anywhere...

Cheers - #19

^^^That was my plan.

With an HDMI splitter beforehand so I can also output to a DP1 LCD on the camera. (I'm still trying to determine whether my on-camera lcd needs would be better met by the 9" DP1 or the more expensive but brighter RED 5.6" LCD)

There is no way I'd want to run an HDMI cable to video village. No way ever. Haha.

I haven't seen this kind of ethernet port before (round). i tried finding some on a quick google search but came up with nothing. anyone know where to get a cable to interface with this and an ethernet card?

They're LEMO connectors. Using them for Ethernet is probably pretty rare, RED would be the place to get a cable.
