alexa mini VS red weapon the hope is over

Both the Mini and the new SXT's have added support for 3D Luts, which is huge. The old looks-system was absolutely horrid to work with considering you basically have to shell out the money for Pomfort Livegrade to be able to create them when working with ProRes. I think they realized that after Amira.

I import directly into camera .cms o.cube 3d lut?
I always had to use its tools, and always only for osx ..
Not very practical!

i was hoping that people at red were listening to their customer
The mini alexa is a marvel of technology at a unbeatable price i was really hopping to see that red will incorporate a true ND glass and a wireless follow focus module in the weapon
Those 2 futures became very important for drone and steadicam operator or gorilla style shooter
Like many people in this forum i have been very disappointed and have no choice than buying a mini alexa
Sometimes dreams never come true

Lorenzo, if you can afford a $40,000+ camera and are claiming your dreams never come true, I truly feel sorry for you. I cannot imagine how the Alexa mini (or a half dozen other cameras in this price range) would actually compromise your ability to express yourself visually as an artist. What story will you be telling?

Yes, the only opinions allowed on RedUser are the ones that lick Red's bum.

All I'm saying is - with the original post he made his point...
he likes the Alexa Mini better.

That's great !

I think it's a cool camera too, my personal opinion is that the Ursa Mini will smoke every version of the alexa on every check mark, including the EVF, the Skin tones and even the form factor.

For 1/10 the price too.

I still made a deposit on an 8K weapon CF upgrade from my Dragon.

i considered also adding an alexa mini to the fleet - but I think it's already going to be obsolete in many ways, and might be better for productions I shoot to rent in case I decide to use that "stock"

I love the tools, and I love making films.

It's not about whether my Mclaren is better than your Porsche, it's about enjoying what you have - none of these tools were available or accessible ten years ago - so just go shoot something and show the world how great your tools are and how great a camera person you are , no matter what camera you're using.

it just gets old, what does he Hope to achieve by saying "I've given up on X and bought a Y"

fantastic ! That's great is what I'm saying, but it's a bit childish to rub something in a group of people's face.

its a very boring troll game.

im willing to bet if he's having shitty results it's because of his filtration.

having an alexa mini won't give you better filtration - it just takes poor nd filtration choices out of the mix because of internal NDs.

i think internal nd can be handy but It's not on my checklist.

i think 4K output on the camera body would have been a nice give by Red - so for now that's one complaint I could lodge with them.

Colorwise, I get fantastic results when I use quality ND filters and white balance a shot, and have blackshaded - so no complaints from me.

By the way, I'd like to point out that since the introduction of the Digital Intermediate - "skin film tones" means less and less.

Big movies and commercials look good because of great camera people and great colorists, and all the people who put a ton of work in - production designers to production assistants.

This is a team game we play, and there are allstars, but you need basemen just as much as pitchers.

Now, to the OP - CTFD and show us some home runs with your new camera.

Well summed up.

And I really wonder if this thread has a lot more merit.
OP has made his point : He loves mini, and somehow blames RED for that

Various more or less precise technical statements have been made by many parties.

People have been upset and engaged.

I am tempted to say that this has run its course.

Until next time someone else complains to RED for bying an ARRI... :)

Hi Corey ,
It's not about the money i'm very fortunate i'm doing well
It's about the huge hope i had on red
i own both system now and i didn't want to get the alexa mini and i was really hopping that the weapon will address many issue from the dragon
and unfortunately one more time instead addressing all those issue they again raised the resolution to 8 k
i'm a big fan of red modular system really well thought but the lack of wireless built ND and wireless follow focus build into it like the alexa is a huge mistake
The weapon is a very expensive camera and those futures should be on it
I also believe that the huge success of the alexa mini is not only the quality of the sensor and the color science but those 2 futures
You can ask any drone or stadycam operator or jib operator everybody want wireless follow focus and nd built in the camera
That's the reason i believe red made a big mistake , they will probably address those issue later by adding separate module and the price will still go up
and the camera will weight more
That 's also the reason that many people believe that the arri alexa mini is a bargain so much technology for a very fair price
That's all

@ Lorenzo
I think your point is very clearly put.

As I think the points on how to deal with those exact issues you raise are pretty clearly put, and this thread is going like infinite loop.

So by that, I think its time to move on.
