In the recent discussion of the issue of some theaters not correctly removing the 3D lenses for 2D exhibiation, thus degrading the experience, there was a link posted by the folks from The Alamo Drafthouse explaining the care they take in maintaining the experience at their theateres. It made me want to drive the hour to try them out and support their establishment.

This link makes me want to patronize them all the more! (NSFW: language): http://blogs.suntimes.com/ebert/movies-1/i-texted-you-threw-me-out-your.html

Really?
And you don't think this is a marketing scheme by alamo? I have two words for you: astro turfing- look it up

Jacek, I don't understand your response. Sure this is a marketing campaign, but how does that change the message? They are pretty serious about preserving the cinema experience for their patrons, they want it to be part of their brand and they are publicizing it. Apparently they are running that spot before appropriately rated films like a PSA to remind folks to turn off the phone. It smacks of the kind of sensibility that the Red crowd might just embrace and find funny. I do.

I say bravo to them for both their stance and the amount of traction this campaign is getting.

I guess you're right - it doesn't matter if it's fake or real as long as you get the message across....

Now I understand what you were saying. It didn't even occur to me that it might be fake, and that could cheapen the message some. It sounded genuine enough to me.

Now that I think about it, if it is fake it's all the funnier and more brilliant.

Not sure that I give a rip. I like the attitude.

Chick was drunk... If it was real, I wonder if that call was made right after being kicked out (if so, it wouldn't be a stretch to assume she was drunk while in the theatre.) If it was fake the (voice) actor did a pretty good job of drunk talking.

I think phone users should definitely be kicked out (assuming they aren't actually using them as a light), but the cinema should be prepared to give the money back. They have a right to refuse service, but taking money then refusing service is a bit of a dick move in my opinion (regardless of whether or not the person you refuse service to was in the wrong.)

ALSO, isn't the process of getting kicked out even more of a disruption? The kinds of people that would use their phones probably wouldn't just walk out compliantly without arguing during the actual movie.

Alamo Drafthouse has always had strict rules that are displayed before the movie plays. This is the only movie theater I go to in Austin and they have a giant warning before the movie: "Don't talk during the movie or you will be kicked out without a refund. And texting means talking."

This is real, it's all over the news here in Austin. The girl was upset and left this on their voicemail. Trust me. Real.

Major win right there. I wish these dudes would open up theaters near me.

Almost half a million views... effective.
