Nothing terribly ground breaking about the process they used. Some good tid bits in the article, but there was something in the comment at the bottom that really got flags flying.

"The thing to remember is the factor in which the new ARRIFLEX D-21 rely's on. that in it's fancy design and that my friends makes it the best HD camera that i have ever used. But to be honest i have never really used the ARRIFLEX D-21 but is the best new camera going around until my very own creation is relised in the next few months at the sony head quaters in New York. Be There Or Be Square. Nukkan!"

Does Sony have something coming out?

Not saying its competition to RED, but are they working on something?

Arriflex D20 and D21 are for some years around but still didn't shoot a movie that made US box office.

RED1 did it this week with "Knowing".

"Digital" is still not ARRI's speciality.

They should keep analog as log as they are mastering there

and let others like a RED to take over digital acquisition.

Sony

Sony

Sony had a press release last year that stated they were working on a 4k camera. Probably an f35 with data recording. But $$$$$$

I actually think quite the opposite. I would like Arri to survive, but it truly depends on their ability to predict the future. There are still many people today that think film will be around for a long time to come. I remember the same stories in the still photography world a few years ago. I also remember the transition from film to digital happened in like a six month period. Once the technology reached a certain point - almost everyone - abandoned film overnight.

RED is a good start, as are Sony's and Pana's offerings in other respects - but we are not there yet. Arri still has a chance to catch up, but not for long.

Just my predictions.
