Hello,
How vital is it to have an AJA IO/Hd for the workflow, and to edit on set?
Any experiences? Old threads?
thanks,
ƒ

its not vital or needed. It is a nice tool to have, but is not even necessary to review Red Footage.

If you were trying to set up a more traditional video assist system, then it would be a nice addition.

it comes in handy 2 different times on set.
1. if you want to have a video village that can record and play back off of tape, and if you want to have multiple monitors setup for people to review the frame.

2. It is needed to work with most steadicam systems in the field today given most do not run hdsdi yet. And it allows an operator to send a SD wireless signal back to VV

AJA IOHD is a good tool if you have a predominantly ProRes based workflow. Something to consider, if you're doing a lot of conversions to ProRes is that the 1080p playback from the camera could be run through the IOHD and converted to ProRes in real-time. With the upcoming Build 17, We'll have the 4xHD mode, so what you frame for on the camera will be representative of what you get for the 1080p playback.

I've borrowed an IOHD to play with a while back, looked at them here and there, but haven't found a reason to actually buy one yet.

The IO/hd???
kinda big for a steadycam dont you think? You must be thinking of the HD10MD3, which is what we use for steadicam.
