I bought a Mamiya 645 80mm 2.8 N not that long ago to test and the bokeh was so out of whack and soft that I sent it back. Then an auction came up for one that was supposedly never used so I thought, "Eh, maybe I got a bad copy" and I ordered it. Suffice to say, I was correct and the unused lens is a great performer for my upcoming project. I mention this because the Aivascope videos in the link lean more towards the optically flawed lens I had before, almost exactly. The bokeh is off, distortion is present, and it's all just unusually soft. Even switching to the 90mm lens, there's simply too much softness and it's clear that the user needs to stop things down to F4 for a decently sharp result. If the aim is to make a quality anamorphic adapter, they need to work on their optics and unless they're going to go the extra mile to calibrate and optimize the lens for faster F-stops, they need to showcase the optimal performance of the lens which, like most anamorphic adapters, cuts off at F2.8 for a stretch. The fact that the image is somewhat in focus at F1.8 is a nice feat but for professionals, anamorphic use tends towards F4, again, unless the anamorphic lens is optimized for faster F-stops.
