  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Ahead of schedule?

If we can beat the schedule, we will. We gave ourselves a little cushion. The good news is that we are on schedule. Short of having a crystal ball, that's the best info I can supply.

Hey Jon, you found the appropriate avatar! Love it.

Since you are being generous with the information ( and I like what I hear ) when can we expect the primes ?

Matt Uhry
www.mattuhry.com

The spirits say before year's end.

Actually Matt, the plan is to release the primes one at a time beginning this summer, with all being on the market by the end of the year. The lenses will be $5K each, with the fifth free, for a total of $20K for the set of 5.

EDIT: Sorry for the misinformation. Latest roll out info is that there is no roll out info. The lens set may still release as a set or maybe individually. Target is to get the set out before year's end. I'll post solid info as I get it and we'll know more in a month.

ETA on the 18-85s is probably 2 months down the pike; late July, August time frame. Production will be roughly 50 units per month. That should give a general idea of fulfillment based on your reservation number.

That sounds great! Given that relaxed but not-too-far-off approximation (appreciating that schedules might change  ), will the reservations be opening up again sometime soon?

Great Avatar!

Wait, but if you're only producing 50 per month, that'll make my wait like... 6 months for either lens. Which makes shipping sometime in 2009... Or will the production ramp up?

And if you're only releasing one prime lens at a time, we won't be able to use it until the set is complete...

Big Jon!!

What about the 50-150mm lens? When do those start to ship again and in what quantity?

Craig,

50-150 US Standard ('Imperial') lenses are shipping currently but production numbers remain modest (<50/mo.). As the numbers become more reliable and consistent, I will post production volume in the Delivery Schedule.

SORRY!!!!! My mistake totally Tony and friends, I re looked at the email I had from a listener who was getting their RED the next week (two weeks ago now) and it was #1720. Must check my facts before blurting out as I'm still working out the 'power' of the podcast :-)

Apologies (and thanks for listening)
Jason

Quite alright, Jason. I shouldn't speculate as much as I do, I'm just very impatient about getting my camera

Loving the podcast! And btw. - Ugrip is in Denmark btw.

Totally understand mate, this delay must really hurt!

Hmm yes amazing how many things happen after you record :-)
I got to then oddly via 'ugrip.de' then saw ugrip.dk! afterwards of course then noticed you can get the bloody things at B&H anyway :-)

and then Opencut.org entries closed early yesterday too! jeez

Since we are all asking....

Wise Big John that can look into the future. My camera is expected in August. I'd like to buy an EVF and the new larger LCD. Would it be possible to get at least either one to start rolling late August?, or I would have to buy the smaller LCD. That would be a petty. I need to start shooting as soon as the camera arrives, and it would be really dramatic for my nerves if I got my RED and have to wait X months until I am able to use it....

Thanks,

IC

The crystal ball is a little cloudy .... but, EVFs are really starting to come through in the kind of numbers that make us (and you) happy. I think that come August we're going to be looking pretty good!

Thanks for the info Jon.

Regarding the issues with the glass mentioned in recon, can we say thats all in the past and that you are moving forward with production numbers? Although I know we dont want to be crazy optimistic about the schedule, do you think we can stick to it as of now? Sooner? Later? How are you guys doing with those issues mentioned earlier? Thanks man!

Still patiently waiting...

Any "guesstimate" for someone in the early 1,000's?

Thanks for that patience estebanred. We appreciate it here more than you know.

We have learned many things in the process of building a digital cinema camera. More things than we wanted to actually ;-) One of those is that there will always be issues. They will never go away, never be completely behind us. It is the nature of the beast. Technology is not always your friend and, occasionally, it humbles you and shows you whose boss. But every day, we tame the beast a little more and can be more and more confident about the continued progress.

The schedule as it sits today is conservative on purpose. It is protecting us from having to push back again. It's giving us a little breathing room and it is our intention to keep on schedule and, with a little luck, even beating it. That's the straight scoop as of May 28. Thanks again for that patience.

we are the best customers in the world. our team here feels to be a part of this camera - vision and concept. our support and patience is here, big jon, 4you and the whole team.
