Hey guys,

I'm wanting to add special effects (using after effects) on my raw red footage. How ever I want to learn whats the best way to output it when its finished, so it doesn't lose any quality. At the moment I've been using "none" as my compression type which works fine, how ever the file size is out of this world. I noticed you can output it back into rew raw format. Duno if this is the way to go though. Suggestions?

Also wondering about color correction. I have the program "Color" from FCS.

Is it a industry standard program? If color is a decent program is there any decent tutorials to buy or download for free?

Cheers guys.

Hi depending on the kind of effects you want to add and assuming your NLE is FCP you should choose to export as "Animation" import the file to FCP and let "Compressor" do its job recompressing and transcoding the whole timeline to the delivery format you need.

The lastest version, Ok Ill give animation a go. I dont get the whole problem with final cut an is 8 Bit. It just seems to make everything so complicated. You should be able to just export from after effects into final cut without loosing quality. Would make workflow way easier.

When exporting out from AE, I find it's best to export out as the format that you are editing in FCP with. Example; if you are editing AppleProRes (HQ) in FCP, export out your AE project as AppleProRes (HQ), editing DVCPro, export DVCPro, etc.

Color is a great app and is widely used and, it seems, gaining a larger user base as time goes on. It does have a fairly intimidating learning curve, but well worth the effort and once you get a handle on it, it's really not that hard of a program to learn. The Color demo videos at Apple are actually pretty informative, although not tutorials. I'm not aware of any out there, actually, but there are bound to be some.
