Hello RedUser,

I have a problem with the Avid Quantel-Workflow. After i was playing out an EDL with the RED 16 settings from Avid Media Composer 3.5.1 and transforming it in an AAF in Quantel and finaly conforming the raw footage, the edited footage doesnt have the same length in Quantel like in Avid. Some clips are shorter and some longer..The 25 fps we hold the hole workflow..

Anyone an idea ?

Does the EDL match what you have in Media Composer? If so, then something is happening in the EDL to AAF conversion within Quantel. Why the AAF conversion? Does it not support EDL as an original file format? You are not gaining anything by going from EDL to AAF since it has already been reduced to the most stripped common denominator.

Does every clip not match in length or only certain ones? Was there a 25/24 confusion somewhere in the EDL processing within Quantel?

Hello Michael,

my settings for the EDL where:
EDL Type:RED 16
Switcher SMPTE
Source TC:Start
Reel ID TYpe: Cameraroll (I was making a new cameraroll heading before and copied the Tapename into it)
Sort Mode: A(Record In)
Pulldown Starting frame:Sequence
Starting event Nr: 1
Starting TC: Sequ. TC

In the Options Menue:

Optimize the EDL
Tape Name trunctation:Remove End

In the Comments menue:
Clip Names
Comments
Effects

This should work as an EDL normaly, no ?

After comparing the clips with a quicktime movie played out with avid i saw that the clips in quantel where 2-5 Frames longer than the playout form avid. Not one of the editpoints was matching. The framerate is 25 fps at all point of the workflow.
@michael: Quantel asks for transforming the edl in an aaf all the time

Sounds like a straightforward EDL to me - Does the timeline in Quantel have the same in and out points after the EDL -> AAF conversion? Are there settings in there that do a 24/25 type calculation? Is the resulting timeline in Quantel ~4% longer? That could hint at a 24/25 type thing.

I usually just export an AAF directly out of Avid for our Quantel since the machine has to do the EDL to AAF conversion anyway. While the Avid AAF doesn't support as much information as an AAF from say Automatic Duck it does support some and it's one less step. Not sure if that will fix your issue but is worth a try.
