Yeah, but then you're waiting for some other camera that isn't out yet, and by the time that one comes out, some other swanky camera has been announced.

In any case, by waiting to shoot until a new camera comes out, you are either putting off making money or putting off valuable time that could be spent learning (in preparation to make money, of course).

How true. But I have other cameras, and I am working all the time. It is just that the time has come to buy two matching cameras (which I do not have) to shoot something in HD for the internet. So come January, I am committed to go shopping. Big thing for little me. My present cameras has worked for over 5 years so I try to choose carefully because once I buy, I cannot afford to upgrade often. It is the way of life when you live on a little island. Filming budgets here are tiny compared to the USA.

Guys,

by ergonomics GH2 still fits better than AF100 if you want later to "exchange" it with Scarlet.

Probably AF100 is a nice video camera but also it's a bit bulky box.

All what you want to know about AF100 ask Barry Green at DVXUser because he is officially writing User manual book about AF100.

But let you know that GH2 will cost you about 1000 Bucks in comparison to 5000 you pay for AF100.

No risk.

GH2 has many features like a still photo camera that AF100 doesn't carry.

Also GH2 perfectly fits to already existing offer from many DSLR hardware rigs and some additional features

can be added with a monitor that has waveform/false colour to help with exposure,

also external professional video/audio recorder, pro condenser microphone, mini audio mixer, etc,...

All that extra hardware you can use again with Scarlet or even Epic.

More about specs and video example you can get from

the original Japanese GH2 link (Google Japanese to English translation)>>>

Have a fun.

Just sayin' I don't like the look of the footage from the AF100 as much as the 5D. Regardless of what words you attach to why an image is bad (aliasing, moire etc), the final image is what's important. If the final image doesn't look up to much, that's all that matters...

A final image with surprise moire can get you fired or bankrupt or both. At least the new Panny looks dependably what it is. Way less stressful.

Recording formats for the AF100

I could be mistaken, but I thought that Barry Green had absolutely 100% confirmed that 1080 @ 60p was in the final feature set for the AF100.

The early specs indicated 60i only, but there have been plenty of sighs of relief that it will be 60p. Most if not all of the people I know who are interested in the AF100 are looking at it because of that capability, which is lacking on almost everything else in this price range. I am also going to be in line for a Scarlet when they are released (hopefully an S35, but it depends on how much longer we will have to wait after the fixed), but we plan on buying an AF100 this year; I have no doubt that it will pay for itself quickly, and there is no sense in continuing to be frustrated with dSLRs while the wait for the Scarlet continues.

[edit] Aha, here we go. This is from Barry on DVXUser:

"The absolute guaranteed last word on this is: it is full legitimate 1080/60p at the full res. I asked the engineers this question specifically, to find out if it was something like an uprezzed 720 or something, and they said no -- it's the full-fledged real deal. 1080/60p at full res."

The 1080p 60fps mode is only for slow-motion VFR within 1080p24 and 1080p30.

It isn't really a 1080p60 mode, though you could try shooting 60fps VFR at 30p and then conform it to 60p in post. You would have to record the sound to an external recorder though, because there's no audio in the VFR modes.
