Its hard to really tell. I mean it was 3200ISO and for the most part in a small compressed window looked OK...and then it completely blew. The latitude is obviously not there when the camera is pushed that far. I respect PB, but I don't respect the 'RED-Killers' that tend to group around him (its a little pathetic some of the comment I see from some HDSLR users). I know that Philip is a man who likes kit and is just as excited as everyone else about Scarlet, and he has his head screwed on straight.

The only pack leader of the HDSLR world that has said anything disparaging about Red is Shane Hurlbut, he dislikes the way RED handles skin tones.

rather poor

Oh... I wouldn't dismiss the AF100 that lightly.. Arrogance is the path of failure. Plenty of examples on that. Plenty of times I've lost a "bidding war" to a clearly sub-par competitor... ---- See what I did there? ;)

With HD-SDI uncompressed out- which no DSLR has. Add a Nanoflash or a KiPro Mini and you get 8 or 10-bit ProRes/100Mbit or more... So not really a solid argument that it's only H.264. And yeah don't know who would expect excellence at 3200ISO. You have to light stuff if you want good looking stuff.

These days, I do! And in the next 2 years, we'll be there. :) 100 years from now, we'll have sensors that can see in the dark with no noise. Or we'll have sticks with color and cave walls... ;)

Obviously it was clear to anybody here in Europe from all the competition that that Panasonic is going to get those the best parts of Christmas cake 2011,...

Just try it for all of us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Take your stinking paws off my sub zero lux camera, you damned dirty ape!!"

Having recently worked with an hvx200 and a letus (which is much more grainy than this and softer at 200ISO), I think this thing looks like a miracle. Sure the image won't hold up to the red mx (based on this video, at least), but for those locked into a prohibitive workflow, or those who want an affordable step up from dSLRs, this could still be a godsend.

Unfortunately, it reminds me of the hvx200 to the extent that highlights get way too saturated and shift to yellow/red very easily. I thought this was a problem with YUV, but maybe it's something else... I bet we'll see a lot of great footage from this camera, but this isn't some of it. Then again, the test seems to be playing to a known weakness in Panasonic video cameras (brightly colored light and overexposure=blocky colors). And other than that it looks great.

Quit worrying, red owners. Some day something better may come along, but how is "as sharp as 35mm and cleaner" not good enough for you? Go watch the Social Network. See? You have a great camera. Go out and shoot something.

Fixed that for you. No 10 bit HD-SDI.

The advantage that would seem to me is that they can optimize the low-pass filter to minimize aliasing.

I spoke to the Panasonic rep recently at show and it looks like it's a GH1 type sensor with a very strong anti aliasing filter to compensate for the line skipping. The strong low pass filter is why they can't record full resolution stills even though it's a 12 megapixel sensor.

Lol. So they have figured out a way to degrade their image enough to hopefully avoid aliasing and moiré. Wonderful. I guess there will be no need to invest in decent glass, since their filter is going to degrade the crap out of the image anyway.

When are these companies like Pansonic and Sony ever going to get serious about imaging? They are playing games with their customers.

At 3200 you don't have much left in the top when you're not recording RAW, and that brings down the total latitude awailable significantly.

Not that I want/need to defend the AF 100, but you cannot really judge DR from this.

That's like Arri putting the low contrast filter in the OLPF in the Alexa which flares and degrades the resolution of wonderfully contrasty and sharp Master Primes.

Good news for the community is that there are lots of choices. The reason I started RED was because I could see that there wasn't a company that was motivated to give you everything. It seems like that is still true...

High resolution

Compact
