I was planning on using my small dp lcd and ordering the scarlet without the 5 inch touch screen.

I will be getting a bomb evf, so you can't use both red 5 inch with the evf at the same time. but I'm sure you can with either the hdsdi monitor or the hdmi monitor at the same time as the evf.

- what will i be missing by not getting the red 5 inch lcd besides the touch feature?

- is the af on the scarlet working with canon lenses yet? is it fast?

- will i still have a movable focus point that i can move around a screen with the side controller? i.e., i heard that you could touch on the 5 inch screen on an area and the af would fouc at that point (very handy)- can you do a similar control with the buttons on the handgrip?

cheers paul

Hi Paul-
I'm going the Bomb route too, since I am an ol' viewfinder guy from Way Back. Plus LCD screens and arctic cold are a poor mix :wink5:
Not that that is an issue in KiwiLand eh?

Obv the LCD is nice for hand-held stuff "away from body" if you follow, or for jib or slider work. But then there is the 'visibilty in bright sun' problem for LCD. That is the deal-breaker for me. Of course, you already HAVE an LCD for that - plus if your's is HDMI/SDI driven then you should be able to use your current LCD AND a BOMB simultaneously. Something not yet supported with the RED LCD/BOMB combo.

Since Scarlet and Epic are running the same software, and Epic/Canon owners are having good luck with autofocus (at least in general), then its safe to say "yes" AF is functional on Scarlet.
Even in the "continuous" mode apparently.

As to the movable focus point using the BOMB? well, trying to envision how you would chase it around with the Handle controls (maybe you need to pre-select your points? This was also demo'd early on by red in a video last spring/summer), I am not sure it would work - or at least be as user-friendly as the touch LCD. Obv you give up a little with each system. Just need to prioritize and drop the Dime accordingly...
