  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Aerial Filming with the RED

Yes I can see its hard mounts on the heli nose and frankly this is no good cause I cant see how you can shoot attached on a heli body with out vibrations that can cause fealures of many kind. I have see magazines ripped of cinecams because of vibrations on vehicles.
The other thing I will be offering in 2011 is antivibration mounts that you can screw on a aprop remote head and get rid of vibs. 3 sizes for light, medium, large loads.
Surely noone wants to pay 950 usd .day to throw the footage in the garbage bin.

Aerial rigs for RED that works

Hell all,

Just some inputs shooting aerials with RED.
As always, it pays off to use the right tools ( even if it seems expensive to start with )
Best solution for aerials and RED is Stab C, rock steady both for 2 & 3D.
Lower budget that can handle the rolling shutter problem, a LSG Gyro.

Include some shots of the rigs.

Good luck all and blue skies

Ha! Thanks, Peter!

How much to fly across the Atlantic for one of my shoots?

Seriously, I'd love to know about Red-friendly mounts in the Southeast US. My shoots usually require a nose mount.

Good shooting and best regards,

Leo

Yeah I mean great if you can rent these systems out its ultimate but we were talking low cost solutions here that one can probablly buy.Sure if you can rent Eclipse or Cineflex or at extreme buy them I mean yes you got the best solution.
Gyron is also a great tool.

Use the Red ram for any aerial work!

Of course; however it makes NO difference if the Red camera is hard-mounted; the CMOS sensor & Rolling Shutter can't handle the vibration.

This is a major liability, one that does not receive the notice it deserves.

In my opinion this prohibition should be a sticky here at RedUser and a warning should be included in the package with the Red.

People unaware of this attribute have been burned rather badly; the cost of a ruined aerial shoot is not trivial.

Good shooting and best regards,

Leo

Yes, the Gyron is great! I've shot hundreds of hours of Gyron footage. But neither the Gyron or Cineflex will take the Red. Perhaps one of those gimbals will accept the Epic or Scarlet.

Aerial rigs for RED

Aerial rigs for RED

Hello all,

I think people mix up systems.

The Nettman Gyron is a capsuled system with the camera built in.

The Nettman Super G, FS and Stab C Compact are all open platforms that basically takes any camera from IMAX and down.
RED ONE works great on the platform both in 2D and in 3D.
Can't wait to use Epic .................

We flew a 2 hour 30 minute mission in 3D and came back with 70 minutes of great footage!

blue skies

Peter...are those two automobile batteries in the red helicopter (lower left portion of the snapshot)? That's a crazy rig.

Hello jack,

The car batteries is only for spin up of the gyros on the ground ( takes up to 15 min ) Then we use the power from the helicopter.

cheers
