Hi.

I'm editing in Premiere Pro CS4, and then importing the project into AE CS4 for rendering, but i'm having a few problems in the transfer.

1) I'm losing all my transitions. I'm only using the default cross dissolves for both video and audio, nothing complicated, but they don't transfer over!

2) My pictures are still washed out by default, despite following the instructions in the PDF to adjust the global settings for "Interpret as Linear light". I have to manually change each R3D, which is a pain.

3) After Effects crashes when i try to open the project/sequence through Dynamic Link.

Would really appreciate some help on any of this!

Thanks

Jim

From Premiere CS3 to AE CS3 I used to have a shift of 2 frames, the footage would slip back... Quick to fix, but would ruin critical cuts.

Maybe that was fixed on CS4, but be aware.

Hi James,

Sorry to hear about problem 3. Because that is the answer to problem 1.

As for problem 2, is this just a problem in AE or is your footage looking washed out in Premiere too?

My editor gave me a Premiere project for my current film "Karle Portal" and I opened that in AE using Dynamic Link, and all the transitions are maintained.

Are you the James Page in Tamworth? If so, give me a call... you know who I am !!!

No, I'm not James Page in Tamworth. Though i did just shoot a short in Tamworth ;)

1) Dont understand what you mean. You think transitions stop dynamic link?

2) The footage is washed out because After Effects has "Interpret as Linear light" on by default, and even though i've changed those settings as written in the pdf that comes with the plugin, it still doesnt work. Premiere Pro accesses the Metadata directly.

3) I don't remember putting transitions in your film. But if i did, and they transferred, that kind of contradicts what i think i your point on question 1, i.e. that transitions break dynamic link.

Pedant!

Stephen was spot-on.

If you want transitions to come through, then use Dynamic Link. However, you said that it is not working for you.

Point 2, I have just had the same problem myself last night. There seems to be some problem in that AE is ignoring the rules (or maybe the rules were mis-typed). The easiest way I found to get around it, is:
- right-click on one R3D file in the AE project window.
- click Interpret Footage
- click on Color Management tab
- turn off Linear Light
- click OK
- right-click on that same R3D file in the AE project window
- click Remember Interpretation
- select all your other R3D files
- right-click
- click Apply Interpretation

Also, in a different post, you were concerned about whether you needed to edit in 4K as opposed to 2k, due to quality issues in the way Premiere scales the footage.

However,
1. if you manually re-size instead of using the (flaky) Scale To Fit option, or
2. import into AE and render from there

Then you shouldn't have a problem.

I tried to phone you to explain this, but you were driving!!! And the answer was too long for a text message :-)
