Hi all,

I have no experience with the smaller action cameras like pixpro, gopro etc, but I am needing something that can get into small spaces (bee hive etc) and looks decent alongside the Weapon footage. Thanks,

T

How about renting a snorkel lens/periscope system for your Weapon? Something like the Skater Scope or T-Rex Super Scope system.

They A7sII is a nice small camera that looks nice alongside weapon footage. Or are you looking for even smaller?

A7SII does look very nice. The GH5 will be out next week with 10-bit 422 internal recording. It also should have the most minimal skew of any DSLR. Good for action.

Blackmagic Micro

That Blackmagic Micro looks amazing.

I'll just chime in with a few notes on the truly low-end side. If you absolutely need to go smaller (or more expendable) you could experiment with the GoPro HERO 5 Session. Its tiny, like under 1.5" cubed, and waterproof. You'll be recording in a compressed codec, so that's not so good. But it does have a "flat" color profile setting to preserve more highlights and shadows for grading, which does give you something to work with. I've never matched it to RED footage, but I have matched it to DSLR shots with good results. You have some FOV options, but if you grab the full 4K frame you'll probably want to use a lens distortion correction plugin, depending on what lens you're matching to on the Weapon.

I'm sure it won't stand up to the options above, but you just might be able to fit it somewhere otherwise impossible.
