  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Advice needed: Will RED work for a thesis in October?

to whom it may concern:

ben came out to my gig on thursday and is a very bright ambitious young man. he took the intiative to reach out to us and followed through by coming out and learned the workflow of the camera right away. he help ingest footage and even helped to wrap out some of the equipment.

if you have a camera and want to help a worthy cause then join in, we are planning on helping him, but we are not sure if we are going to be avail everyday.

as far as the school goes, i think a letter signed by 1-50 would help him, i'm in for that. we did a 14 hour shoot yesterday and went through 25 CF cards or about 100 minutes of footage without one failure or clitch.

Red community to the rescue. Nice work guys. Hopefully this all works out for Ben. He seems like a good guy. I'd pitch in some days if I was on the west coast.

Steve

Thanks RED users for the great feedback. We're presenting the workflow to the school tomorrow thanks to Dino at Kosmos3D, Evin Grant, John Cordell, Steve Sherrick, and many others. We hope to make you guys proud.

Good luck with the presentation. But whatever the outcome of it, do it with Red, do it as you yearn to do it.

Screw em - you will win no matter what, in the end when they see how good it looks, they will be apologizing and telling you that you made the right choice.

If we don't prove that our thesis can excel with a RED One, we will be relegated to the school's F900 (which is a good camera, but certainly no RED).

Your school has an F900?

Holy crap. All we had was an SRII

So, I wanted to give you guys the update.

After a meeting with our faculty, and thanks to last minute help today from RED users John Cordell and Evin Grant, we were able to get a green light to continue camera tests on the RED. We will have to prove that the camera works for our needs, which seems quite fair since we don't to sink our project because of RED infatuation.

So thank you to all RED users who came to our aid.

And now the next question.

We need a generous volunteer to let us shoot a more formal test in the next 4 or 5 days on a RED One. So that we can take a simple sequence of 4 or 5 shots through our entire workflow and project it for the faculty. If we can complete this, and all parties are satisfied, we will get to shoot the project on the RED.

Let me know if any of you kind souls can help us REDheads out.

P.S. I by no means meant to throw my institution under the bus. So, if I made it seem like in earlier posts, that AFI doesn't care about our project, that was not my intention. These guys are willing to sit through an hour long discussion about the camera, so it's not like they don't care. They're just hesitant to let us go down in flames.

But hopefully the RED will soar on Oct. 10th.
