Everyone

Hoping y'all have some useful advice on my next purchase for my DIT setup.

I have a 27iMac (3.1 i5, 16 gigs of RAM, twin TBOLT, one FW, four USB 2.0). I have a small job coming up and I'm considering one of two additions to my DIT setup - (a) Triplecator to up my workflow speeds or (b) the LaCie TBOLT to ESATA hub. Client in this case has two eSata equip'd drives.

Given a budget of only being able to purchase one, might I get your thoughts?

Thanks !

Ed

The thunderbolt to Esata works great! I use it often when clients are nice enough to provide esata drives.

Thanks Leland - it is nice to have something other than usb 2.0 drives on set and then have the client wondering why archiving takes so long :)

We've had a lot of luck with an 11" MacBook Air and the LaCie Tbolt/ESATA hub. We just retired our field hub after getting the new USB 3.0 Redmag readers, but that hub will do a great job. Just a heads up though, it can get finicky with certain ESATA cables (and not always the same ones), so carry many extras.

The LaCie TB eSata adapter does not support Port Multiplier.

Google USB3 to eSata with Port Multiplier.

You'll find a better cheaper solution that doesn't need it's own power source.
USB3 is surprisingly fast compared to TB1

Any particular USB3 to ESata adapters recommended? The one on Amazon seems to have decent reviews for $35. Also, what kind of speeds are you getting?

We currently use the Lacie with great results, however the power supply is a real pain.
