I have an Apple Mac Pro from 2008 with a very nice graphics card, 64GB of ram and an AJA Kona 3 capture card. I am interested when working with red footage from a DSMC1 camera how installing a red rocket card would benefit me? I cut in Final Cut Pro 7 btw.

What your doing will totally work, yes.

But two cards in a 2008 Cheese grater can over time tax your power supply.

We've melted down a couple of older Mac towers over the years doing what your doing.

Truth be told, computers have come a long way in 12 years.

You many to consider something as affordable and powerful as the M1 Mac Mini.

We have one, and it's only a tick slower transcoding R3Ds than other, more elaborate Mac setups we have.

For the money, its a very very good machine - and will only get better as Big Sur matures and apps get more optimized for it.

Good luck.

Thanks for the tip on the mac mini, i may actually look into upgrading my system down the road when I have the means to. Although i'm asking how the red rocket would benefit me?

A RED Rocket card will be like day is to night. Completely different in rendering times. So. Much. Faster. I still have a Mac tower from 2008 that has a Rocket card installed and it was illuminating to see the speed difference. It's for sale too, if you'd like to buy it. PM me if interested. http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?185356-RED-Rocket-card-for-sale&highlight=

Does it replace my current graphics card or just added onto it? Can i keep my AJA Kona 3 installed as well?
