Hello

I'm very new to R3D raw files and I've been taking a CC SpeedGrade online course on Lynda.com. I'm trying to advance my color grading knowledge and also take advantage of the capabilities of the R3D raw file.

I'm use to doing all my editing in Premiere, then an export. I haven't incorporated SG to a project yet and I'm wondering what workflow people are using with the latest CC software.

1. Do you recommend using dynamic link?
2. Is it better to complete the edit, then export. Import the file into SG, then export. Finally, place the color corrected file over the edit back in Premiere? If so, can one export a RAW from Premiere, then import RAW into SG?

If folks could share their RAW workflow with CC software I would really appreciate it.

thanks in advance!

I use dynamic link to SG, finish the grade and then back to PP CC for export. That workflow works very satisfying for me at least.

Thanks!

I see that there is an exposure slider in lumeteri color within PP. That slider is available to be used on any file. Does it treat RAW files differently? Is there a better way to adjust exposure since these files are RAW?

Speedgrade is End of Life. I wouldnt bother trying to learn it.

I agree with Josh. Adobe is importing color correction tools similar to Lightroom in the color tab of Premiere. You can do a lot with those and also use LUTs.
But... I think you will always be able to do more in a dedicated color correction program like Baselight, Mistika, Nucoda, Pablo, Resolve, and so on. I don't think we're at a day yet when one program does editing, sound, color, and VFX in a single package; I think you're better off buying four separate programs each optimized to do a single thing.

Wait and see what the new improvements are in PP when SG is tabled. Seems promising.

This is true. Its great for quick projects, I would have a hard time grading a really important project. Its lacking way too many things, at least for the foreseeable future.

I'm actually attempting to switch to Resolve as my main editor because of all this.
