  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Adobe Premiere Pro 5.5.1 + Resolve! (epic users take note)

What? Aleksandar, i think any pro software requires us to have to pick up a book, ask questions and peers from time to time.....not sure what you meant to say here, but have you used or looked at Adobe Premier? Anyway, it's rather SOPHISTICATED---you want easy, then use FCP express or I-DVD.....you are missing the point of PP (in my case) I too was using FCP and transcoding to prores etc...but the point is you can stay in RAW till FINAL output. That is a BIG deal.

Just to add to that - FCP may be easy to export into those different delivery formats, but try keeping color consistent across those formats - it's a pain in the butt. With premiere you may have to spend more time setting up your project on the front end, but it's incredibly easy to export to multiple formats and have each video look exactly the same as the last.

I'm actually surprised that you're one of the few people on here complaining about slow playback of R3Ds as I get this problem as well. Used to think it was from an external drive streaming data too slowly, but I get the same problem on internal RAID-0s. It's also happening on machines with a Rocket card installed. Hopefully it's something that gets smoothed out, because I'd love to take advantage of a fully RAW workflow. But until they get it sorted out I'm sticking with an offline LT edit. At least they are working towards a solution on R3Ds though, FCP doesn't seem to even care.

I wouldn't bother writing anything if FCP is my today solution. I just feel frozen in time going all over again finding thing that were already found years ago.
My first dissapoitment in PP was when I tried to change project settings in the middle of edit and trying to choose video display output.
That was something I was click away in last 10 years.
Please don't remind me about gama shift in FCP, it's painfull every day to see my beautifly graded material in Resolve " dissolving" in FCP prores "sh*t".
Again I apologize for my comments, they are off topic.

I merely went to the Media Browser in the lower left corner of PP and dragged a few clips to my timeline.....I SEE where we can change PLAYBACK To 1/4 or more....funny that i cannot change to 1/8 or 1/16 though....those are in light gray and you cannot chose those options. ALSO.....to ACCESS all RED RAW data, JUST go to the Project Bin and right click the CLIP and choose source settings---you get a window with ALL RED RAW data---AND yes, EPIC working as well....my screen shots below show BOTH of those two items of which i speak. So far pretty easy. BUT, i cannot get playback to work well....just stuttering HEAVILY.

On first pic attached--look at the white window and see "Playback Settings" & "Paused Settings" set resolution for playback there....i set Play at 1/4 and paused at 1/2

You just found a little annoying issue we still have with 5k footage. We don't allow 1/4 res playback in 1080p timelines because that would normally be horrid quality. So put your 5k clip in a 5k timeline. (Easiest way to do it is drop on the new icon in the project window). Then you can set to 1/8 res which is normally good for Epic software playback on a macbook pro. Then you can edit at 5k and get the performance you need. You can then nest it in another sequence or export to 1080p.

As for the other complaints on the thread we have lots of good resources for final cut switchers, you can start here:

Please David, keep your good work! Please don't listen to people that says they want FCP in Ppro. It is easy to learn Ppro to get the most out of it.

Thank you Adobe for your good work!

+1 !

Be conscious that I (and probably many others) have moved because, instead Apple does, Adobe is listening and responding.
