At the beginning AME was working fine for me. With time it became very slow when it loaded the new temp project, even if the project had only two or three videos. It stopped responding for several minutes than began encoding again. Sometimes the encoding never began. I closed it and tried from the beginning.. Same thing. It was a real pain. I heard several people complaints about AME, but never faced problems with it.

I decided to clean the media cache data (Preferences/Media), but nothing happened. I checked the location and found out that in the Common folder I had more than 32 GB with about 10 000 files. So the clean media chache from inside Premiere was not working. I know from my experience that copying from one hard to another becomes much slower when you have a lot of files, so I deleted all files manually.
C:\Users\vista\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Common (29 GB)
C:\Users\vista\AppData\Local\Temp (3GB)
(P.s. 1- You may have another name for "vista".
2- The AppData is a hidden folder, so be sure to activate "view hidden folders" in folder options.)

Guess what! Adobe Media Encoder started loading the project much much faster :driving:, as it used to do at the beginning. And all this was before downloading the 4.2 update.
Maybe this information will help you with your AME problems..

Thanks for that tip. Sounds interesting.
I'm using WinXP. Premiere 4.1. hidden folder activated... but i don't find any "AppDate" Folder.
I find "Common" Folders... but there are not big... maybe 50 MB (all together)

XP is different from Vista. You may check the location where you are saving your cache media files in (Preferences/Media).
BTW, do you have problems with AME?

Mohammed, can you confirm if your AME is really running faster now..
