  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Adobe CS6...

8 bits is for the birds...
Until I can get a 16bit import from the R3D, I'll have to stick with RCX. (It seems the import will bring in the image in 8-bit mode and toggling the mode to 16-bits in photoshop only affects the already extracted 8bit image)

So close and yet so far...

Suggest that you send your note to Adobe. They're looking for feedback on developing app features while it's in beta.

Now, if we could only convert our R3D stills into DNGs. Better Yet, have native support for R3D stills in Lightroom 4! Can't wait to see what Adobe does with their Iridas acquisition!

Yes!
Red could work closely with Adobe to prepare a special SDK for getting the true raw ( pre demosaic ) image to the ACR engine. Then the grain reduction would be good, and the sharpening would be far more advanced than what RCX offers in software.

But the what if it looks cleaner and sharper than RCX ? There is a dilemma there. Perhaps the tech info could flow both ways, and RCX could get better at the same time. Win Win.

One can only hope.

Pretty good beginning.
BTS from yesterday with Scarlet-X and a vintage Leica Telyt R 400mm f/6.8.

Sanjin,

The remote control on libec tripod... does it work with the scarlet ? Which model is it ?

Call me crazy, but aren't all loading formats simply plugins? I don't know if Adobe gives out all the information to create such a plugin. Then again, if someone who knew how the red files worked inside and out were to send them some code... :D

And since when does loading convert to a particular bit space? If you were in 16 bit and opened a file, wouldn't you be working in 16 bit? Or will the loader simply not open if you're already in 16 bit? Guess I should go check out this beta.

My favorite feature with Bridge is "Batch Rename." Haven't tried Light Room yet. Is there a similar option?

With PR, AE, LR and now PS supporting R3D I would be suprised if Bridge didn't follow suit... Unless Adobe is finally moving away from Bridge entirely. I use LR and find Bridge to be almost completely redundant.

Do you not use Lightroom, Tom?

Adobe should make photoshop CS6 open R3D files through Camera Raw 7 as 16 bits per channel
If you agree can I suggest you go to the Adobe CS6 Photoshop Forum:
http://forums.adobe.com/community/labs/photoshopcs6/
and ask them to make this possible too.
I've just done this, so maybe if lots of us ask it will happen much sooner
All the best
Steve

There is none that I know of. Batch Rename is the only thing I've used Bridge for sine Lightroom came out.

I'm not PS expert, but my friend told me that it opens R3D as 8-bit but then you can swtich it to 16-bit.

There is little point in switching an 8 bit image to 16 bits. The "16 bit data" the original R3D file had has been thrown away by opening it as an 8 bit image

If Premier would could just have better colour tools... like a 3 way colour corrector just ike FCP... and a natice codec so you don't have to render every single time you put on an effect on , or grade on.... I'd drop everything and use it tomorrow...

It has come so so far... but just needs to get over that speed bump. Its got so much promise...

I love Adobe....

Ask them to fix the Premier so you don't have to render ever time you do an effect or grade adjustment.... just so the picture can play smooth.

And a decent colour corrector would be good...

I'd use it tomorrow if just these two things were fixed....

It's almost there... almost...

Premiere CS6 with Iridas's technology could be pretty awesome. Let's wait and see.

Mark... Grab yourself a cuda card... don't need to render at all! And most basic effects are gpu accelerated!

On my old gtx285 flies like a champ. All we are saying, is give premiere a chance ;)
