Hi,

I have been working on a project with native R3D files for a couple of months. I haven’t it touched the project for a couple weeks; the computer and drive were turned off and disconnected properly. No files were moved, drive letter and paths all still the same.

However, now when I load the project a few weird things happen:

  1. It says it loads all media, yet when I play the timelime it indicates half my files are offline.
  2. It does not prompt me when I load the project that I have offline files and to reconnect them.
  3. When I try to reconnect the R3Ds manually premiere gives me “Unsupported of Damaged File” error. The files play back fine in RedCine X.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Same issue

Same issue

Similar issue... have about 300 Epic R3D files in my project.

It plays perfectly fine in Premiere and with RED Player. But After Effects gives the same error as stated in this thread. It's only a dozen or so files that have the issue in After Effects.

I just finished running a couple of different disk utilities on my drive and everything came back normal.

The specific error message I get is this: After Effects error: File "A004_C013_1113KS_001.R3D" cannot be opened, it may be in an unsupported format. ( 86 :: 1 )

All but about a dozen files load without a problem. If I try to relink them to the file I get the same error.

Like I stated previously... these files play fine in RED Player as well as in Premiere CS6.

Currently running After Effects CS6 11.0.2

I've not found a solution. I ended up having to do all of my color-correction outside of After Effects and then bringing it in as a QuickTime. Really unhappy with having to go that route. I prefer having complete control within AE to ensure everything blends perfectly.

Just had that Problem. The solution was simple: just install the newest updates and then delete and reinstall the red importer. Don't know why, but it fixes the problem.

How did you delete and reinstall the RED importer?... it's standard install with AE CS6.

Red Importer instructions

This is where I downloaded and got the files and instructions to install it: http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/redepic_importer/
A few months ago the instructions were actually inaccurate and you had to refer to the CS5 instructions, but I think they are correct now.
