  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Adobe CS6 Premier Pro + RED overview

Awesome! I love using Premiere with RED. The question I have is in regards to Alchemey and the Film look options. Will Premiere see these applied effects through the RMD? Or since Premiere does not have those features it won't see them? Would LOVE for those to be added in a future update!

Thanks Jarred!

For short projects that don't require a lot of secondary color, I love exporting a Final Cut XML from PPro and loading that into REDCINE-X PRO and doing a bit more then a "one light" for correction or grading and then opening my project back up in PPro and seeing all the changes take place immediately. Best of all, no increased render time from effects because it is all metadata on the original R3D.

I have noticed that after I do my "one light" in RedCine then import the RAW R3D files, Premier seems to read the color value differently. Mostly it goes darker... looks like a gamma thing. Any knowledge about this anyone? Its such a nice workflow to do a quick color correct then edit for smaller jobs. It's kinda of surprising my producers and I know I've talked a few friends into switching over. Would be nice if the color was more accurate in Premier.

You should update PremierePro to REDColor3... That should resolve your "problem"... But the issue could also be about settings, like alchemy, etc... That PremierePro doesn't support... Not yet, hopefully :)

I guess this is why we are not sure it does support RC3 and RG3

Nope....been an issue from day one and im wondering how RCX interprets all this data when sending it out....You can do some simple tests with your scopes....transcode out of RCX to DPX, Prores etc...and there always is a shift on the scopes....Do the raw conversions in a color program like resolve and you can get a near perfect match. This i've never been able to deal with...and hence cant rely on RCX for anything than a broad stroke of say WB and Tint.....any real color work just cannot be done in RCX...it's a shame since you can do some really great looking primary work in RCX, but then go to transcode out or have RMD read by any other program and you don't get same results. So there is something going on with RCX that does not correlate with other color programs in how they read the R3d's....too bad.

Looks like I have the same issue as Antoine. I loaded the "redepic_importer_p3_mac_060112.zip" and followed page 6 of the installation instructions in "http://labsdownload.adobe.com/pub/labs/redepic_importer/redepic_importer_install_cs6.pdf" and it's still not showing up. How did you get yours to work?

Antoine,
you need to go to Adobe Labs and load the software to bring in the RC3 settings.

http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/redepic_importer.html

Are you referring to this:

"After Effects on Mac:
- ImporterREDServer.app
Applications/Adobe After Effects CS6/Adobe After EffectsCS6.app/Contents/

-
ImporterRED.bundle
Applications/Adobe After Effects CS6/Adobe After EffectsCS6.app/Contents/Plug-ins/(MediaCore)/ "

If so, I have replaced the existing files in both directories even with the new update of 6.0.2.

did you also get the reame file and follow those notes? It's a bit of pain to do, but it's all a manual procedure AND then when you have a Premier update.....and choose to update, you have to RELOAD the importer again.

Really glad you guys are putting the effort into your workflow education. Keep up the good work.

When is Adobe going to give us RC3/RG3 in Premiere?

So in the video Dan shows how to "edit original." Which brings up RCX Pro. For some reason I am getting the Red Player 16, which has NO correction controls. How do I change this please?
