  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Add the Giottos Rocket Blower to your list of things banned by TSA

Bahaha seriously, pathetic.

i'm looking forward to the times though when clothes will be banned on flights, especially exciting when flying Emirates cause all their planes are staffed with tasty young international air hosties ^^

after all, one could use a cashmere scarf as deadly weapon too.

Jim should start Red Airlines, the airline specifically for filmmakers...where you are allowed to fly with as many batteries as you want, VLock or otherwise, 5K LCD displays in every seat row and SSD readers for rushes screenings while in air ^^

Hahahaha awesome. And of course Oakley 3D glasses for the seat back entertainment screens.

I agree though... a frickin' pencil or a hair clip or a piece of string (or scarf, as you said) could be used as a weapon. Where do we draw the line? Logic says test the damn blower for explosives, realize it isn't a bomb, and give it back, move the F on to looking for terrorists or whatever the hell those TSA people actually do.

It's an air blower, not a bomb or grenade. Anyone with half a brain knows that.

But then again anyone with half a brain knows that they're already over-qualified to work for the TSA :dita:

Anyone know what the procedure is if they wan to confiscate something - like an expensive camera part - and you refuse to give it up? My concern is that they want to take something worth several hundred dollars, more than the flight costs itself, and I'd just rather turn around and figure out another way to travel.

Well as a frequent international flyer I have had serious problems in airport security for even more ridiculous things - hence why I strongly advocated against naming the EVF "bomb". I still think that was a stupid move that will end sadly for someone, one day. It all depends on what mood the security officer has on the day.

I personally believe that when boarding a plane, everyone should be allowed to carry a weapon of their choosing.

I miss the good old days when I could walk through airport security, toss my knife in the bowl along with my loose change and collect it on the other side of the metal detector and x-ray and then board the plane with it.

Re: The BOMB EVF... I've been on the TSA fun ride with it a couple times. One time a TSA officer and I joked about how "that's one good way to bring a bomb on an airplane"... Never had a problem with the EVF, I think the paranoia over the naming is an overreaction. Plenty of other products out there with names stamped on them, which the name itself identifies as some object that would be banned from air travel.

My spinner mount covers up the "bomb" lettering on the EVF anyway :)

i can't wait until they take our shoelaces before we fly.

Simple. You ask for a supervisor and plead your case. If they still have a problem, you turn around and leave. Check the offending item, or don't fly.

My most interesting security moment? A few years ago, a screener decided she had to confiscate a tiny - as in 3" long, weight a couple of ounces - adjustable wrench. When I asked her why, she visibly struggled to think of a reason, then blurted out 'you could MAKE something with it!'.

Then you get through security, you go into the duty free store, you buy a bottle of high-proof rum. Hell, they'll even sell it to you *on the plane* and bring it to your seat with a smile. Smash the bottle over the seat in front of you, you have a weapon every bit as effective as a box cutter - as any cop who's cleaned up after a bar fight will tell you. Stick a napkin in it and light it, you have a semi-effective improvised incendiary bomb.

And that my friends is why any thinking man calls it 'security theater'.

Hey Jeff, it's a whole lot different as a visible minority. When I smile the wrong way, it's a "random" check about 10 times. I usually leave my sense of humor at home when I travel unfortunately.

Well,

since my brother was at the Airport with me and He insisted on going as far in as on to the checking in security gate, my Giotto Air Puffer +1, were given to him to return safely home... If He were not there, they were to simply be confiscated by Security, as they said "They looked too much like hand grenades"... ;)

Need to have a check in bag to put them in ot, or if and when I travel just with carry ons... NO AIR PUFFERS... :(

Well, they toned down the "Bomb" branding on the EVF considerably from the original design. Red listened and compromised, I'm guessing.

It looks like a hand grenade? Really? Well your face looks a lot like my ass... May I sit on it?

Just more Kabuki theatre to keep the sheeple pacified.

My defense is to go thru security completely pissed off and grumpy. I also actively voice my disenchantment with the system and how they are legally getting away with sexual harassment and robbery. It appears that people that draw attention to themselves and how f-ed up the situation is are less likely to be a risk. The quiet nervous guy with the hat and baggy sweatshirt is the one they are most concerned about. Not the one who refuses to take his shoes off just to prove a point.

My wife HATES flying with me....

Welllll.... I kind of disagree with that one. I'm more afraid of all the laptop batteries on a plane than I am a terrorist. Part of the reason the security theater is so obnoxious when everyone is carrying a small bomb and allowed through security. No finger nail clippers but here is your nice lithium bomb, have a nice day.

Of course she does. She's probably concerned that her association with your behavior is likely to get her strip searched. I wouldn't blame her if that were the case, as she would have a better understanding of how these things work than you seem to have.

Quite scarry to have such a high degree of imbecils guarding security of the country.
