Thought I'd add the monitor I chose to work with my Red. I went to the local Circuit City and tried out, just about, all their monitors (I was actually surprised how many wouldn't work with Red.) I just brought the thing home and will be putting it to work, here, shortly.

Anyone wondering which PC monitor should give their local electronics store a call and see if they'll let you bring in your Red and try out their monitors.:)

So far, the biggest downside of the w2007 is the glossy screen - definitely going to need a hood for exteriors.

My Circuit City didn't have any Sonys - the downside to living in a small town.

I encourage anyone else, who has found other monitors that work for them to post, here - maybe we can FINALLY get a list going.

Here's another thread that was started on the same subject:

Maybe the mods can magically merge them somehow.

How's the aspect ratio on the 2 preview settings on the HP and Sony? All of the monitors that I've been able to try at a Staples and a Best Buy have squeezed or stretched the image to fit the monitor, depending on whether it was set for 720p or HDMI/DVI, and had no menu option to either letterbox or map the input 1:1.

EDIT

I see that the 26" Sony is an LCD TV. Hmmm... that would solve the 16:9 to 16:10 squeeze(or stretch depending on how you look at it) issue wouldn't it.... Very big though...

We don't have Circuit City, Best buy, or Fry's down here in NZ. I have to get my fix of those places and gadgets once a year when I get home for a visit.

Thanks for posting what does work, it's helpful for those in underprivledged nations.

On the HP w2007, you can "stretch" the signal to fit the screen, or you can display the native 1:1, which is what I'm doing.

Sorry to hear about the NZ situation, but aren't there local electronics dealers you could check out? You'd think, since you're closer to the manufacturers, maybe you could get a better deal than us poor folk, in the states.

The Westinghouse L2410NM scales perfectly with centered image through HDMI and I think would be hard to beat for the price -- $409.00 from Newegg.com -- there's even a $50 rebate. It doubles as a nice computer monitor as well of course. Great picture, much better than several others I've seen and tried.

Oh how I wish that were the way... Many things are more expensive here as they have to be imported. Freight charges are outrageous. I generally buy my toys in the states. It's still cheaper to have them sent in.

I recently had my sister send me a new Palm E2 for US$ 175.00 + $30.00 for expresss USPS shipping. To buy the same here would cost US$ 325.00.

We have a few dealers but very small selection, nothing like Best Buy etc...

The only thing not imported anymore are the sheep.

We use these monitors as well. Overall, a great monitor, never rely on it for accurate color, but for the $$$, we couldn't be happier! We got them for $349 each at best buy when they were on sale. Free shipping.

Thanks for the information, Rod. So to confirm: the Westinghouse L2410NM scales perfectly and DOES NOT crop Red's menus?

Other question: Have you successfully used the Westinghouse as a computer monitor for your Mac Pro or macbook pro? Just wondering how it fared, and whether it would be workable as a low-budget non-color grading monitor for my anticipated mac setup. Theoretically, this should work. Or am I mistaken? Sorry if the answer to my question is obvious: I'm a bit of a Mac noob.
