  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Does anyone know why, when using ADD to export, RedCine-X uses little or no CPU or GPU ?

Is there a way to boost it?

Please answer this too. I was working with a 24 thread server today trying to process REDCINE-X transcoding faster. The specs are:

2x Xeon (something) 6 cores w/hyper threading
96GB ECC RAM
Striped 256GB SSD on a 6 Gigabit SAS Card

It runs significantly slower than my workstation:

AMD FX 8320 @ 4.9GHz
GTX 780ti also overclocked
24GB RAM

It also rendered media encoder jobs much slower than my workstation... any insight in how this stuff works?

process based only on CPU.
So, you have more cores and faster you are. simple.

Not true.

I have a 6 core mac pro and a quad core imac and they both render in the same amount of time.

I do not believe!
I have a PC with 6-core xeon v3 and go much faster the new iMac i7 quad core ...
You are probably comparing an old V2 processor .

I have noticed, in general, that my PC at home hits 100% of my CPU utilization, while the "souped up" Macs, at my school take 2-3x longer to render the same thing, using either FCP, or Adobe. I looked into the CPU utilization, and it was sitting at 20-30% for both! (Even Adobe's GPU rendering was way slower on the Mac than my home PC). I did a little research into it, and some people noticed the same thing, but I have not found a solution that actually works on the Mac to use 100% of system resources...

CPU means use your computer to render. Gpu is for your graphics card if you have a good one instead of killing your pc.
