  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Adam Wilt Visits RED ( the long version )

I went to red studios a month ago and was denied entry.
Now i know what i missed!

Maybe I'm crazy (stop laughing Brook) but I am imagining attaching the side handle to a rosette clamped to the iris rod out toward the front of the lens for the op's right hand like the handgrip on an ENG lens with a short multi-pin cable running back to the brain.

That sounds great.

Maybe even a simplified joystick grip would be nice for my big fingers to not accidentally press while also supporting weight. Has anyone ever seen a grip with a a couple multi-turn adjusters coming off of it like windshield wiper/headlights/cruise-control on an auto?
Not to flip/toggle up and down but to twist and perhaps with a button at the tip.

I wouldn't suggest throwing it in the sea :-), but yes it's a pretty solid design.

hehehe, the first thing I will do is to throw it in the sea and see what we get :-)

ooops, Michel beat me to it :)

I would not do so on the RPP's as they are literally build like TANKS, and would not do it my self, this beauties al go to Duclos for service, including the Re-Markings.

Ketch! How much $$$ to remark!???
I would drive from Toronto to do this!

Pics?

thats just the hood.. i removed mine.

Is it removable? I am guessing not, If I know anything about Jarred..he likes to hack shit up. I like the trim version, does the front element telescope beyond your new hood? :)

We have been discussing this, but more and more DP's, especially overseas, but many here in the US as well, have dropped the RPP's in favor of the Arri/Zeiss MP's only because of the Focus Markings.

So since there is not any one that can agree on which lens is better as far as Sharpness and image quality over all, unless they need T*1.2 non one is willing to spend the extra money for the Arri/Zeiss PM's but we do need better Focus markings, and for this we will have soon an update, but I think I will start his own thread for this, so not to Hijack this one ;)

Dropping them is a lot different than not picking them up. Many people have never even tried them because of the stigma attached to them. Do you think that the lenses need remarking or just to be shimmed?

By The way - LOVED this article. Man... I am pretty Jealous of Mr. Wilt... sounds like FUN!

Yeah some are just like that of I want a NAME and to them that name is Arri and or Cooke, but this is changing.

No shims, Re-Marking.. but please lets move this to the link posted above, I don't want to HiJack this thread, thanks..

Any of you, "Scarlet has been forgotten" folk notice this?

I personally love the look of the REDRay and the fact that it can be powered by an arc reactor (for all those situations when you're not near mains power):

Wow good article. Adam wilt is a good reporter. that was a great insight into Red world.

Great article... Fun read.

I assume that Epic will be subject to going through a similar, final FCC RF/EMI testing and certification process to the BEVF and Red Station... What's it been? A two month waiting period for those products!?! How frustrating is it to have your product ready to go, then have to wait for the bureaucracy to catch up!?

This is one of the areas you really really do want bureaucracy to check up though. Otherwise Epic could very easily become a 911 emergency beacon every time you start recording.

They should be able to get through pretty quick. Cell phones regularly take less than 2 weeks.
