  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

ActionProducts Modular Solutions for the EPIC (Electra)

Ive pre ordered my electra, but like most of you, im completely confused as to what im actually getting.
I see now since i have put my order in, that the items on the website have changed making it even more confusing as to what im getting, and what i actually need......??......Help......!
I ordered the Electra ($1870) with a vlock back (i hope), but it says in the item description for the "Electra" , "The current modules include the Basic Module "Proteus," Power Module "Electra,"
and Battery Module"
So if it says that in the item description i hope thats what im getting.......??
cheers
Paul

Hello Paul,

I greatly apologize to you and everyone for the confusion. This confusion is all about to end because we have been working hard to make different pictures and descriptions that better explain the break down. There is so many modular options and functionally, its difficult to explain it only in text and pictures. In time we will have product manuals and video demos stating in more detail the true power of our new modular system. I will be making a formal post giving a detailed overview of how the whole modular system works shortly after I answer your question here directly.

The "The current modules include the Basic Module "Proteus," Power Module "Electra," and Battery Module" text listed in every online posting is meant to indicate that each modular component can all work together and these are the current ones we offer with more to come. Not that each one of those are included in every package. We sell these as packages and separately because each operator's needs are different so we want to give professionals the option to only buy what they need / want.

Below is a screen shot showing where to see what is included in each module or package listing....
screenshotElectraPlates.png

What you ordered was the module seen in the picture below ONLY... the "Proteus" quick release module is NOT included in your order so you will need to add that to your order to be about to use the "Electra".
electra_with_vmount_01_EDIT1_small.jpg

This is how the "Proteus" quick release module looks by itself. All power flows through this module to the camera's bottom inputs. Since you ordered the Power Module "Electra" with V-Mount or Anton / Bauer plates separately, you will need to add the Basic Module "Proteus" shown below to your order.
proteus_01_EDIT_small.jpg

Once you add the "Proteus" to your order, your setup will look like the below picture...
electra_with_vmount_01_EDIT_small.jpg

You will NOT need to create another order online. I will manually add this to your order and receive payment separately so you will not be double charged for shipping. I am sorry for your confusion and any inconvenience it has caused you, but thank you for your feedback on it. Your feedback is helping us make a clearer understanding for everyone. I hope this responce has helped your understanding. I am going to make an additional post shortly painting a big picture overview on how it all works together. I am also more than happy to speak personally with you or anyone else on the phone to help understanding. You can reach me at 1(910)300-9431. Please let me know how I can help you further and thank you for your business. I will be personally contacting you shortly to finalize your package.

An open word:

It seems to be a new thing to announce developments and put them into a webstore, when they are actually not in production / available yet.
I have been waiting for an XLR audio adapter that I ordered - and paid for - for over two months now.

May I humbly suggest that you only put items into the store that you can actually deliver - or otherwise clearly indicate the prospective wait time ?
I am sure that would make for much happier customers.

As the manufacturer I would like to to make a statement to this. First of all thank you for posting this in kind words. We are aware of the delay of some of the products and apologize for this. Its not the case that the products on backorder are not in production - actually we have shipped more then one batch of most of them to our customers already. However we have not been able to catch up with the demand fast enough. We are getting there and the situations will get much better very soon. The next batch (including XLR Audio Adapters, Top Plates and 15mm Audio Rod-Mounts) are going out trough the next week and the following batch shortly after. We think we should be able to hold a 3 week delivery frame from now on and soon be able to offer them off stock.

We are learning from this situation and will be communicating delivery-time more clear in the future (we started doing this with the delivery frame of the electra).

Again I would like to apologize for this.

Hello Everyone!

PRE-ORDER STATUS UPDATE!
- Available first come first serve between end of December 2011- beginning of January 2012

Below are the pre-order packages we offer online in both in North/South America and as well in Europe. Just click on the links to go to the online postings. Also the EPIC and SCARLET have almost the same housing, which means everything we make for the EPIC should work with the SCARLET! Our EPIC Accessories Category is now renamed to EPIC + SCARLET Accessories as everything included in it should work for the SCARLET as well.

EPIC + SCARLET POWER PACKAGES:

Our modular system starts with the
Basic Module “Proteus”: Its main functionality is to provide the modular line up with quick release functionality. The Proteus will run power to the camera while allowing operators to power their REDMOTE through a 5V connector (optional cable to Mini USB and other connectors). There is also an easy access 3.5mm headphone jack on the top, followed by an additional LEMO connector on the bottom that provides 12V power or (optional) a remote adapter to trigger on/off of the camera ("Schmitt" interface). Quick release power solution. Power, Sync, and HD-SDI connections are installed to the bottom EPIC inputs.

Below is how the Basic Module "Proteus" looks by itself. For more details, click the below links.
Basic Module "Proteus" for EPIC/SCARLET in North/South America, Basic Module "Proteus" for EPIC/SCARLET Europe

The Basic Module "Proteus" can have the Battery Module or the Power Module "Electra" directly connected to it... This is to give people the option to buy the whole set up at once or buy just the "Proteus" and the Battery Module, giving the camera basic V-Mount or Anton/Bauer functionality with the ability to grow by adding the "Electra" and other further modules later as needed. This is a modular system that can grow with your production needs.

Below is how the Battery Module looks by itself. For more details click the below links.

If at any point you need more power distribution options, you will need to include the Power Module "Electra" to your set-up. This gives you 12/24 volt power distribution, with battery life LED notifier, and a puffer battery to power the camera and accessories for up to 4 mins between battery changes. Below are the two configurations we sell the "Electra" separately as. The ONLY reason you would buy it separately this way, is if you purchased the "Proteus" separately first and want to upgrade your setup. You NEED the "Proteus" to use the "Electra".

The below "Electra" set-up includes the "Electra" and a quick release plate installed on it so you can attach the Battery Module. You NEED the "Proteus" and Battery Module to make this set-up work. Click on the below links for more details.
Power Module "Electra" + QR Plate for EPIC/SCARLET in North/South America, Power Module "Electra" + QR Plate for EPIC/SCARLET Europe

The below "Electra" set-up includes the "Electra" and V-Mount or Anton/Bauer Plates installed on it (These plates are NOT quick release like the Battery Module). You would buy this option if you didn't have a need for a more modular Battery Module solution and your needs are met with a non quick release V-Mount or Anton/Bauer Plate. You NEED the "Proteus" to make this set-up work.
Please note that if you purchase the "Electra" configured this way and at any point in the future you want to upgrade to use the Battery Module or other added further modules we develop, you will to replace the battery plate with a quick release plate to extend the setups modularity. Click on the below links for more details.

Below are some packages we offer with the modules bundled together...

If you browse our site (innocinema.com in the USA or actionproducts.ch in Switzerland) you will find more configurations to choose from but I only listed these without the specs because the purpose of this post was to try to give you all a better big picture overview of how these modules work together with the ability to add or take away functionality as needed. I hope it helped. If you want to view more detail and specs, click on the listed links for the online product posting. If you want to talk personally on the phone about it to help clear understanding, please feel free to call me in the USA at 1(910)300-9431.

Hi, looks like a great product but please state definitively what the wait time is for the whole power package plus the top plate.
Thanks

Does the top plate only have one hdsdi port, basically just extending the one on the rear of the epic/scarlet? If so, why not two, seems easy enough and I personally would welcome another sdi port attached to the cam body so I don't have to loop out of my sdi monitor...

I agree with Jake - why this top plate didn't split into two or even three outputs seems odd - possibly an engineering issue with running the splitter and cables through the plate? Its a fantastic piece of equipment and I'll eventually be picking one up, but I'd probably be after it faster if it had at least one more sdi-out - is this a possibility?

I guess it needs a internal amp to split SDI in two without signal losses. Even more in 3 or 4... so no, keep it simple, an amp would had weight anyway, the point is to be light.

I'm sure though we will see top plate for I/O module that will add even more port :
For exemple, a I/O top plate with an integrated SD-SDI and Composite downconverter would be nice, especially with their ULEX and its SD-SDI wireless input.
I'm pretty sure we can have a module top-plate only for wireless composite.

But please ActionProducts, make a simple handle, like the first red handle + extension, but smaller, to fit the Epic and a Module.

- The new version of the TopPlate will work with both the EPIC-M and the EPIC-X. Also, based off of REDs specifications of the dimensions and the mounting points of the SCARLET, the TopPlate and all of the EPIC Accessories will also work with the SCARLET. If the TopPlate is ordered today, it should be available within 2-3 weeks. I will be able to give a more accurate time frame, very soon. I do recommend you order soon to help secure your place in line, as the soon to come batches are selling out fast.

As for all the Power Modules and their packages, they are still on pre-order status and the first batch that we are aimng to have ready before Christmas is already sold out. The 2nd batch will be available sometime between mid to late January. After that, we will be shipping more regularly and should have faster fulfillment rates.

The January batch of Power Modules are selling fast, so if you want to receive one within a reasonable time frame, please place an order as soon as possible.

Power Module Packages:

Or if you only need V-Mount or Anton/Bauer Battery power to the camera without the power distribution of the "Electra", buy both these Power Modules together.

Again, we apologize for the slow turn around time on these EPIC accessories. They are in such high demand that it has been difficult to manufacture them fast enough. Please continue to bare with us as we continue to work hard to fulfill these products.

Thank you for your interest and patience. I will provide more updates as I receive them.

Introducing our NEW SwivelMount system for the Battery Module. This Battery Module can seamlessly slide on and off of the "Electra" or "Proteus" found in our Full EPIC PowerPackage. When used by itself, it can mount and swivel on 15mm Rods, 19mm Rods, and a ShoulderMount. Below are some pictures should verious setups of the Battery Mount with our new SwivelMounts coming next week.

I will be posting prices and links to the NEW SwivelMounts product listing early next week. STAY TUNED!!!

I like the option of mounting the battery plate on rods. Makes the connector on the back of the camera still available for the Redmote. Just a thought/suggestion, it would be nice if the battery plate was on a quick release so that it could quickly be moved from the rods to the back of the shoulder pad as a counterweight. The lemo cable would possibly need to be swapped as well, or have the use of a coiled cable so it could just be stretched. Maybe that is a quick release there and I just can't fully tell from the pics.

The external quick-release module is what you are looking for (left side on the picture).
