ActionProducts Modular Solutions for the EPIC (Electra)

Hi Justin,

Thanks for the info, it sounds great like all your accessories!
I'm based in Italy so yes, I'd buy from the european site.

Vassili

Is this product officially supported by Red? Does it communicate with the brain through the module connector at the back of the brain?

Hello Everyone,

EVF / Monitor Mount
  • ActionProducts resigned this with a better construction since NAB2012.
  • There will be 2 versions to choose.
  • Pre-orders will start next week for this. (will update on this next week)
Visit innocinema.com for more information.

Really curious about the design, a few weeks have passed, can you show the design already?

The ActionProducts Module System

Battery Modules

Basic Module “Proteus”
Our modular system starts here...

Its main functionality is to provide the modular line up with quick release functionality. The Proteus will run power to the camera through the bottom inputs, while allowing operators to power their REDMOTE through a 5V connector (optional cable to Mini USB and other connectors). There is also an easy access 3.5mm headphone jack on the top, followed by an additional LEMO connector on the bottom that provides 12V power or (optional) a remote adapter to trigger on/off of the camera ("Schmitt" interface).

Battery Module

Its main functionality is to provide the modular line up with V-mount and Anton/Bauer battery mounting options (others to come). This makes operator’s setups flexible to mount to the “Electra or Proteus." They connect without cable directly through the module connectors. The Battery module (and actually also the electra) can be disconnected from the basic from the other modules and reconnected over cables of different lengths. This allows external mounting for counter-weight, etc. There will be several mounting options available - 15mm and 19mm rod mounts (with swivel), swivel for the razor shoulder-mount, etc.

Power Packages

"Proteus" + "Electra" + Battery Module

This modular system allows operators to add and remove modules using quick release technology to quickly alter functionality on the fly based upon their needs.
  • "Proteus" allows quick release for "Electra" or "Battery Module".
  • "Electra" gives 12/24 volt power distribution to the cameras and accessories. It's puffer battery allows camera and accessories to remain powered on for up to 4 minutes during battery changes.
  • Battery Module works by itself, "Electra", or "Proteus" using V-Mount or Anton/Bauer batteries.

"Proteus" + "Electra" + V-Mount / AB Plates

This configuration does not come with the modularity options as with the Battery Module, but still includes a large range of powerful options.

  • [*=left]"Proteus" allows quick release for "Electra".

Top Plate

TopPlate Module “Apollo”

Its the ultimate tool for efficiency. With numerous mounting options, it provides both power and video distribution. This allows for easy rigging for all camera accessories and considers all sizes of production with its video I/O. The EPIC TopPlate "Apollo" comes with 3 cables, making it ready to go right out of the box. This plate utilizes a power D-TAP cable, HDSDI BNC cable, and a 4 pin LEMO cable. This allows for the unit to work standalone, or along side our Basic Module "Proteus". If used with the "Proteus", you would just distribute the 3 cords accordingly…
  • 3 Pin Lemo plugged into the "Proteus"
  • HD-SDI BNC ran through the "Proteus" connecting into HDSDI port on the EPIC
  • 4 pin Lemo ran through the "Proteus" connecting in the SYNC port on the EPIC

Quick Release Power Modules

"Electra" + Quick Release Plate

The ONLY reason you would buy this separately like this, is if you purchased the "Proteus" separately first and want to upgrade your setup. You NEED the "Proteus" to use the "Electra"
  • "Electra" gives 12/24 volt power distribution to the cameras and accessories. It's puffer battery allows camera and accessories to remain powered on for up to 4 minutes during battery changes.
  • Quick Release allows you to quickly add or remove the Battery Module.
  • Ability to add future modules to system.

So, Justin, is there a way to mount a Sound Devices Mix-Pre on a Scarlet with Action Products ? What would be the easiest and cheapest way ?

Thanks,

The "Hydra" is ActionProducts 3G-SDI, HD-SDI, SDI splitter module. It features auto source detection and support for SDI, HD-SDI and 3G-SDI signals. Used in line with the ActionProducts modular power solution will allow up to four realtime SDI line outs. Three outs located on the right side and one line out on the bottom between the power switch and the SDI line in.

I don't quite understand the product.

Auto-source detection seems a bit useless as Epic and Scarlet are only outputing HD-SDI and this is a module made for Red cameras, but when you say support SD-HD-3G , do you mean there is a downconverter inside the Hydra, and one of the output is SD ? which could be great for all those cheap SD steadicam, and for cheaper high range wireless.

- True, when used with the Epic, auto detection is not an important feature. However, the module can easily be used "off" the camera on other set ups - then this feature can be of use.

- These are all SDI formats (sorry, need the make this more clear). So it is 3G-SDI, HD-SDI and SDI. Just to clarify, It does NOT support analog SD.

Quick Update on ActionProducts's NEW no delay wireless solution for the EPIC/SCARLET. This solution as a whole will work in 2 ways. With ActionProducts wireless Transmitters, or as a professional HMDI holder for PARALINX Transmitter sticks. The solution will work as a module with the existing AcitonProducts quick release system or using a V-Mount or Gold-Mount Plate.

We now will have 2 avalible options...
  • Connecting to the EPIC/SCARLET by the HDMI port if you do not plan to use the +1 Module.
  • Connecting to the EPIC/SCARLET by the HD-SDI port, leaving the HDMI port free for the +1 Module
In the below pictures you can see both solutions connected as an example of how they will look like, you would only need one of those.

The transmitter antenna will seat on top of the unit where you will find an available 5 volt mini usb for power.

Questions about the apollo top plate:

1 -- Is there a new version that works with the new top fan, or is the existing apollo fine?

2 -- would it be possible to mount the apollo ON TOP of the new red top plate? How would this work with the rest of the system? This way, I could have a red cage and your wonderful complete system.

3 -- Do you have any plans on making right side cheese plates that work with the red side handle and apollo attached? This is really needed.

Thanks!

The new TopPlate is available from today on (post will follow). It fits on all current Epic/Scarlet cameras (even Epic-M) with or without the new top fan.

In theory it probably would be possible to mount it onto the red top plate (extra long screws). Don't really think this would be a recommended setup however.

No plans for a right side cheesplate (besides the one we already have).

New ActionProducts "Apollo" TopPlate - Now compatible with the new red top fan.

We are happy to announce that the new “Apollo” TopPlate is now compatible with REDs fan upgrade. This includes also the Epic Dragon and Carbon. All customers that have a pending order will already receive the new TopPlate.
Features: The new TopPlate has the same features as the previous one. It now however does not include a integrated fan protection (grill) as it is not required for the new fans. The grill is available as a separate option and works for all regular Epic/Scarlet cameras as ALSO with the new fan. It can easily be mounted/removed.
The Apollo TopPlate can be mounted to all currently existing Epic/Scarlet models included Epic-M (optional screws are required).

Yes - it connects to SDI output. has a hdsdi to hdmi converter and a 2x hdsdi splitter. It will work with the paralinx and probably the radian. Not sure about the nyrius (has a different design).
