I'm selling my Red edition ActionCam rig. This thing is beautiful, but I'm moving more into producing rather than cinematography and won't be putting it into use.

The cost is $12,000, and includes the sled, arm, vest and both cases. I would need to collect sales tax or get a tax number also.

PM me if you're interested.

I've been asked a question about this item which I don't have information on and I'm hoping someone else might know.

The question is whether or not a rental house might be able to recoup the cost of a purchase like this, or whether it would most likely be an owner/operator purchase.

Anybody know?

Mike

99% of all similar devices are owned by operators, since the craft of flying a camera requires practice and experience, but then some of the biggest houses do have stabilizers for rental as well, for the odd ocassion when a production needs a last minute replacement. Also, I've seen several of the new indie filmmakers who either fancy themselves good enough to fly a camera after having done it on a loaned rig a couple of times, or figure "there's nothing to it" or just come up with a simple flying shot at the last minute and try to wing it on their own, rent a rig. So, for the price/quality ratio of the action cam, it wouldn't be a bad investment for a rental house to buy one, provided the money they invest doesn't need to be recuperated in the short term. This would certainly be a long term investment...

And while we ponder questions like that, is Santa Claus real?

Thanks, Rudi.

Very helpful info.

One should note its a bit of a process to get the vest rigged to a specific person. Generally a good reason to have your own.
