  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Action Products Raptor Offer: Only Good Until 3/22

Upgraded springs for 35lbs payload will be $80 extra. AP told me that we could:

1. Exchange the Standard Spring Package (28 lbs) for Heavy Duty Spring Packages (35 lbs) for $80 extra
or
2. Keep included Standard Spring Package
(28 lbs) and add extra swappable Heavy Duty Spring Package (35 lbs) for $680 extra

They recommended option 2, so one could fly very light set-ups in addition to very heavy set-ups - It takes 1 minute to swap out springs

what's the weight support range of the two types of springs? What's the minimum load support for each?

Is the arm tool-less?

Talking with my partners on this, so it was a question I couldn't answer (comparing to a Zephyr at the moment)... although the Raptor will support much more.

Most of the time you are able to open the arm chassis by putting the palms of your hands on the gray caps and turn them loose that way. Otherwise there is a tool that comes with the rig that gets the caps loose to change out springs or just maintain the arm. The whole process can be done anywhere and usually only takes a few mins.

Before you make a decision, check this thread at Steadicamforum first.

By the way, Zephyr arm has 30 lbs lift capacity with 20 lbs payload which is slightly more than Raptor arm with Standard springs (28 lbs) but less than Raptor arm with Heavy Springs (35 lbs).

the most importand thing.
look at AP arm
then look at the Zephyr arm.
bent metals on thesecond and machining from billet in a state of the art on the first
what would you trust?
its very obvious which construction is cheaper and weaker.
regards

Re-Sale value also consider the most important thing.

Here's a video of a guy flying a 3D rig using a back-mounted vest (not the ActionProducts vest, though). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hSnyfREP6Nc. I think it really demonstrates the advantages of this type of vest, the upper body movement and the strength of the design, seems like there's much more opportunity for balance. Notice how the shoulder straps are just draping off him.

Just read through the supplied link - thanks.

It does seem like operator error in that case. In terms of the Zephyr I've heard good and bad things.

I think that they offer really great prices for such products, really great :-) So, guys remember to spend your time and contact them.

Firstly, AP did not promote this thread. It was a private offer that was voluntarily made public. This is not a 'group buy' for the Raptor. The situation that AP is being faced with is extremely aggravating. Despite requests from users, we were excluded from David's group buy option. Now we are communicating with people interested in the Raptor, who learned about it from this forum. AP will not sit back and ignore customer requests. However, we are also faced with another problem - how to be respectful to David and the hard work that he has put into organizing a group buy. AP is a family run business and we genuinely care about customers and the film making community as a whole.

That being said, out of respect for David and also to respond to customers, AP reached out to David and specifically laid out our plans of the private offer. Again - David was notified of AP's plans to make an offer. It was brought to his attention that we will release a number on Friday, to satisfy both our customers and not to disrupt the group buy. The three day window serves two purposes. Firstly, it is out of respect to David's group buy. Few people riding the fence will make a decision on the Raptor in three days time. For the price range, the Proline is an excellent choice! None of the ActionCam stabilizers will ever meet the price range of the Proline, no matter how many units are made.

Secondly, it puts us on track for our normal plans of release. As mentioned before, the Raptor has been 2 years in the making and was set to be released at this time for the last six months. Neither Proline nor Raptor orders should be affected if interested parties are truly committed to respective rigs/price range/etc. Due to this forum being a popular place to stir up interested parties, the AP offer was leaked almost instantly. We are not responsible for this, as it was generated and driven by customer interest. The offer itself is a result of this customer interest.

It was not AP's intention to disrupt a group buy or any group buy. However, flip-flopping between whether or not to include the Raptor as an option in the first place led up to this situation. The regularly priced Raptor will be available Monday 3/25. Anyone interested in our offer for the three day order window to see what the order numbers are, have until Friday 3/22.

Thanks for your clarifications Justin, we all know how great of a products AP make, and for this I know David tried to get the Raptor in the Group buy!

Any ways, best of luck to the both of you, David with the Group buy and you guys here with the "not" group buy offer, at the end if the User is happy it al that matters, and btw I agreed of course with every one else, even so I ma not a Steady Operator... The Raptor looks really cool, congrats on that!

David needs credit for posting on the Groupbuy thread that AP made an offer, and posting the details on his blog (encrypted). He did that even though he wished to achieve the highest discount for the Proline deal, i.e. the greatest benefit for the greatest number.

Hopefully the numbers are good for both groups. I think Justin is pretty spot-on about the minimal cross over between the Proline bracket and the AP bracket; at the same time there must be a marginal amount of crossover.

(edit: not to suggest you're saying otherwise Ketch, I just referenced your text since I can't actually find the post you quoted from Justin.)
