The prices of some accessories seems unreasonable high. For instance the cost of connecting a v-mount battery to the Scarlet or Epic body is 1850 USD (backpack + backpack quickplate) when using original Red parts. I'm used to paying about 160 USD for V-mout connecting plates, i.e. EX3 or Canon XL-H1.

For 1850 USD I could buy:

A standard IDX battery-plate for EX3: 160 USD
4 IDX Endura batteries and an Endura charger: 1670 USD
Two beers in Norway: 20 USD

Total: 1850

Or you can you a RED Quickplate ($500) and the 2B-to-1B adaptor ($190)

Or a battery belt clip ($290) and said adaptor.

I do agree though that they need to update the quickplate and battery clip to the new cable.

Or you buy buy ViewFactors APU Battery Plate (http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?65432-VF-Brook-s-APU-Battery-Plates) fantastic product. $699

There are plenty of options other than the backpack system.

Like steve said, there are other options, there is also

http://reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?67624-cinema-OXIDE-Epic-Battery-Plate-Adapter-and-Pin-Guard
that will work with the RED Cradle, I'm sure there are some cheap second hand ones....

These products though are made in the states, so they won't have YET the mass manufacturing ability of say Japan/China...

That said, the price may reflect that HOWEVER, these are premium stuff, there are third party options so.. premium gear will be charged premium prices... they give the ability for options thankfully...

$20 for 2 beers?! now that is unreasonably high...

Not if it's Nøgne Ø.

The APU plate is great. The real problem is there's no neat way to attach the plate; which is where the dollars are going; mounting hardware. The $160 IDX plate doesn't come with anything but the plate...

Thats what I thought... must be great beer! Depends on the beer.. but in college I used to be able to get a 30 pack for $10

I don't drink so I wouldn't comment on the Beer prices... ;)

But the BackPack system is not an easy piece of accessory and it serves an array of uses, and its modularity might have to do with the pricing,
if one does not need or can't afford it, I highly recommend VF/Brook's APU/IDX battery plate, it attaches very firmly with a safety lock to the
back of the EPIC/SCARLET and it is simply a marvelous V-Lock Battery Plate, we have two of them and could not do with out, thanks to Curt and Brook
for the super fast service btw, which has now allowed us to have them for our Dubai shoot... ;)

We are introducing our system - the TITAN, which is an all around solution. Will give you quick solution going between it all - and you don't have to disconnect the redmote. Will give you handheld as well. Yes it's just not a battery plate - but it delivers it all.

http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?67674-INTRODUCING-the-TITAN-rig-complete-handheld-studio-solution-for-EPIC-SCARLET!!!!

Have your battery plate attached to our back arm (will show renders of that soon - will be where the rod bracket system is showing now) as if it was a film magazine. Fully adjustable in swivel and height - so you can balance battery to your needs. Then when you want to just want to - connect it all into any configurated handheld system in a matter of seconds ( more renders to come)

Thanks for all the inputs!

On beer, 10 bucks for a pint is considered cheap in Norway, alcohol taxes are extremely high, we are a hard working protestant people, or our leaders try to keep us that way... :p

Cail Young, Nøgne Ø is one great brewery!!! Funny that you've heard of it, as it's one of the niche local companies just a couple of short kilometers from where I'm sitting in the small town of Grimstad. Higly recommended btw: http://www.nogne-o.com/

Massive beer nerd here, and Nøgne is imported out here to Oz where we enjoy it immensely! I have a bottle of Black Tokyo Horizon in the cellar right now :)
