I wish the iPad was already available in my country. This app got me really excited about it. I mailed the maker of this app because I was curious about the surround panning capabilities of it. He's going to build a joystick surround panner in a future release.

I used this last week on an edit job. It's undoubtedly the most impressive add on for FCP I've ever used.

Setup took about 2 mins (I did it by setting up an ad hoc network on the Mac Pro - but you'd need a router if you didn't have wifi on it) after installing a tiny bit of software on the Mac - follow their advice on getting the older version of the wireless driver, which took a little finding on the google code site - I had zero problems. You also need to enable the Mackie Control interface in FCP each time you boot up - this is a FCP issue. As with other interfaces, you have to have the Audio Mixer open in the background in FCP (you can hide it behind another window if you want.

Performance is stellar. With the setup described, there was no lag in response. Faders in FCP move at the same time on both devices. Only issue I had was the faders 'sticking', so levels being carried on to the next clip occasionally, but maybe this was a setup option in the automation - I never got to the bottom of it. Jog and shuttle works, as does the JKL style forward and rewind controls - although clearly it's easier to do this on the keyboard.

I was working on a busy outside broadcast, and the interest the iPad generated with this running was amazing. I have to say, every time I switched it on and the faders swung into place, it made me grin a little.

If you have FCP and an iPad, this is a no brainer. Get it.

Oh - forgot to say - no stereo panning controls I could see to use, but then what real use is that for video? You set them and forget them mostly. Not a deal breaker for me.

in the upper left corner it has what looks like mode switches for the faders. i assume you hit "pan" and the faders become the pan controls, etc. or maybe the interface changes to v-pots...

either way, i'm dying for an iPad. it sucks being a broke apple nerd!

EDIT: ya, went and checked out some reviews on it. it looks like it supports most (if not all) of the mackie control protocol.
