  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

ABT SpeedMount EF – a Speedbooster Built Into Your RED Camera

A couple of weeks ago, we unleashed our optomechanical engineers to design a new version of the SpeedMount PL and EF for DSMC2 cameras, since our former partner Hanse Inno Tech closed their doors at short notice. We made the best of this situation and changed the design to fit Sigma PL Primes and to make assembly and adjustment easier. We also completly changed the mechanics of the SpeedMount EF.

We're currently making some pre-production units and should be able to deliver final production units in April.

I've been talking to David about this exclusively. He and the team have been working hard on this, being very receptive to input for the design. This is going to be very promising! :-)

Hello David,
Do you know if the new design work on Weapon Magnesium Dragon 6k?
Is the Olpf clearance ok?
Still interested in the Speedmount.

Hello Patrick,

we're currently making pre-production units to check if everything works as expected. Would be great if I could visit you with the new OLPF to test it on your camera since RED has no data about any changes. If there are still issues with the Weapon Magnesium Dragon 6k, it would be super helpfull if we could take some meassurements on your camera.

Cheers
David

Yes I’ll be back from shooting in 1 week. PM me to arrange that.

If this is the same issue we were dealing with with my early serial numbered Scarlet-W, I hope you guys figure a solution out!! LOVE YOUR CARE AND DRIVE, DAVID!!

WHY create a whole MOUNT when it has been shown the SB can be in just an OLPF case????

Hi Andrew, it's unfortunately impossible. The focal flange of the mount is reduced by ~4.5mm due to the focal length reducer. So yes, you could mount a focal length reducer in the OLPF, but the measurements would be all wrong. Our system is designed in a way so that you can swap the regular mount with a SpeedMount without having to readjust the sensor position.

After waiting for weeks to receive the prototype parts, we finally yesterday fully assembled the SpeedMount EF mk2. We will make some minor adjustments to the design and start the first production run next week. So everyone who preordered a SpeedMount mk2 PL or EF should receive them in June.

We will offer for all SpeedMount EF mk1 customers an upgrade to mk2 for free when they are finished.

Attached is a photo of the first fully working SpeedMount EF mk2 prototype on our Helium and a photo of the SpeedMount PL mk2.

This is great news! Mk1 has been performing great for me so far. If the locking pin gets an improvement, this will be a welcomed upgrade for sure.

Wondeful news David!! Can't wait to try that PL version with Sigma Cine Primes!

when can we see footage of Mk2?

The SpeedMount mk1 and mk2 share the same optical block, so there's no optical difference (the tolerances are tighter on mk2 to guarantee that the optical performace is best possible for all units).

Here's a music video that was shot on the SpeedMount PL mk1 some weeks ago:

Did anyone swing by and see David and the Speedmount at Cinegear?
