  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

About to purchase a Flanders 17" - Is there another pro more affordable option?

smart choice i have many flanders monitors a PENTA and some panisonics. Wayyyyyyyy bettttter than the panny's . Better support, updates, color, lighter weight, consume less power. etc..... Makes the pannys look old and outdated. Get some rhino glass for it!

Great monitors, I just couldn't deal with the delay especially with the DP and GAFFER sitting at my cart 90% of the time. I went with a 25"sony OLED and haven't looked back yet.

The FSI monitors have delay issues?

I haven't heard about any delay issues. FSI did just update their product line. If you're looking for something really nice I would highly suggest their new 32" display. http://www.flandersscientific.com/index/cm320td.php It was noticeably their best looking display to date. It's a great size, great image, 2 inputs with a side-by-side view, and has the ability to load both calibration and user/look LUTs. I definitely thought it was the best value over anything else I saw at NAB.

And if you're concerned about delay just email the question to their support team and I'm sure FSI will put your fears to rest.

I have not compared FSI monitors to others to compare delay amount.
However, all the other monitors I have tried (Panasonic, SOny, Astro, TVlogic) do have picture delayrelative to sound when sound and picture come from different sources. THis is because it takes a noticeable amount of time (up to 1/2 second) to process SDI signal at the monitor end of the chain. This is a challenge for a focus puller using an sdi monitor, as they would see a buzz on focus after it happened, not as it is happening.

If you are using the camera signal for your sound, no action is needed. If you are listening on comteks or ifb, your sound person may add delay to that signal to try to match the effect from picture.

Not sure if any monitors have fast enough processors yet to help this.. but it has been an issue since the transition from SD to HD

From memory Transvideo don't seem to have much delay.... And they have beautiful build quality.

PS

monitoring is a regret filed pain for me... Apart from a sony BVMD and a early astro I have disliked every single monitor we have purchased in 13 years...

I believe not enough people are willing to pay for good professional monitors so the price of good is too high for most...

ALSO if you have good/sensitive eyes don't trust any online resource on monitors. You need a demo in your own time where you really put it through its paces...

Maybe try renting 1st?

the delay on the flanders is about 120MS i use the pix 240 to delay audio if it bothers the client. If you use camera HD SDI port and set the monitor to fast refresh it helps. The panasonics are better in this respect, but the new FSI screens are really nice

I wonder how their newest model handles delays.

25" CM250

They said their pixel response time is under 1ms but not sure how that relays to audio/picture delays.

SDI and HDMI can handle a latency down to 1ms. However the IPS screens have a much higher latency than TN panels. That is the sacrifice you make for the much greater color range. If you need frame accurate work with audio then get a TN panel just for that. Just don't expect to use it for anything else most of the time.

We have patched the comtec transmitter to the headphone out, on the the FSI, to solve the sync issue.
