  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

about SMALLHD DP6 and SCARLET...

Mackfind enzie:

1) What battery did you go with for the SmallHD DP6?
2) What arem is that? Looks like the RED arm, and what connector is that on the Scarlet-X top body?
3) Did you manage to navigate ALL the menus with the side handle? I had heard here that for example, you couldn't adjust the audio levels if without the rouch screen.

Thanks

Hi Marcos, we/I use the small HD batteries. They are one of the best features to the Small HD monitor for me. The batteries are slim, last long (about 4 hours on dp6) and price is great. Though I have the dtap cable I will use with the scarlet and VF plate.

The arm is Noga's cine arm with 1/4 20 and 3/8 on either end.

The bits on the end are 16x9's quick release adapters. The best, though expensive, piece of gear. They will hold both 1/4 20 and 3/8 threads, and eliminate the need of threading each time you use the gear. They just slide in and lock well. Very efficient and they save the threads from the aluminum taps so you don't strip.

Daniel,

Were there any limitations with menu navigation without the 5' touch display?

HDMI is enabled on the Scarlet and works. I believe you can run the 5.0" LCD Touch (or Bomb EVF) and HDMI at the same time as well.
Interesting. I'm obviously ignorant as I have never used a Scarlet (or an Epic for that matter), but for some reason I thought that HDMI was only recently enabled and that you cannot run a display through both ports at the same time. Glad to hear that I am mistaken!

Hi Jack,

It did not seem like we had any limitations at all. We navigated through all the menus we needed to with the sidehandle, no problem. We didn't go through every menu though, but I am sure it would be the same for those.

have I got this right?- i was going to get a scarlet without the Red 5inch touchscreen, use the side grip for the controls (and a redmote pro sometime in the future), but use an smallHD dp6 as the main display. I was hoping I could use the smallHD attached through HDsdi and a red Bomb evf at the same time. even better attach my spare DP1 through the HDMI as the directors monitor all at the same time.
will I be able to do this?

I can't handle 800x480 displays- especially when the viewing area is reduced with all the info around the edges. I tested the dp4 against the dp6 yesterday, and the dp6 was way nicer to look at. sharp enough to focus by eye.

You can have one RED LCD/EVF running and then select between HDMI or HD-SDI as an additional output. So, yes, you can run an EVF and then a DP4/DP6 from the HD-SDI or the HDMI. You could also run a RED LCD, then a DP4 via HDMI looped out to the DP6 via HDMI. :)

So, one LCD/EVF output and one HDMI/HD-SDI output. The Epic will eventually allow EVF/LCD and HDMI AND HD-SDI, but the Scarlet only outputs to either the HD-SDI OR the HDMI.
