  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Abel/Formatt Hot Mirror deal

Yeah, it's a great deal if you don't mind stacking filters. You get exactly one ND filter with a hot mirror on it and one clear filter with a hot mirror. Other than that, it is three plain Formatt ND filters. From my chair, it doesn't look like a terrific deal.

I'd rather have regular NDs with the hot mirror so that I can avoid stacking ND filters and suffering the resulting image degredations.

I will be calling them and see what sort of a package they can put together on hot mirror NDs.

Most people don't find the need for IR blocking below ND12, so that's why I made them regular NDs. You can stack for increased range, which is what people have been doing for decades. If they were all IR/ND filters then you couldn't stack them. The kit is designed for versatility, but if you wish to order individual filters them we're happy to accommodate.
 
these filters come at a great price.. but wont they be tested.. i'd really like to see how these perform on the red.
 
We tested them first, which is why we set up this deal. But we've shipped a bunch of these now, so I ask those that have received them to chime in.

Pancro still has me waiting... I'll probably have to order the kit from Abel, who knows, maybe it's better anyway?
 
I received my set today. I will test this week and let y'all know. Anything in particular you'd like me to test or shoot with/without?

I received my filter pack this past week.

I was ready to start testing them today. I opened the box and I found inside two crickets.

Testing postponed.
 
Seriously, are you saying we sent you an empty box by accident? Have you contacted us about it? (I would have no idea if you did.) Please let me know if there is any way I can assist on this matter.

BTW, I sent out a couple of test filters to a number of you guys and I have yet to see anyone post anything. Talk about crickets. They're back with me because I have some new tests to run. I might be persuaded to let someone else test...

I requested a quote quite a while back but never heard from Abel. Oh well ...
 
I did get the filters Mitch, but only for a week and it was a busy one. Unfortunately I need them for a few weeks so I can throughly test them in my down time. From the little I was able to test they seemed quite good.

BTW I just did these same IR tests with the ASC scientific committee on the Red and F35!
 
I know prices aren't posted here, but just to get an aproximate figure for a budget, in what kind of ballpark are those prices? More like under 1K, under 2K or even more than that?

Any results yet? I need to order some filters very soon and it would be nice to have a confirmation of the performance of the Formatt filters compared to others... does anyone have any opinion yet?
