  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Abel/Formatt Hot Mirror deal

Sorry for any miscommunication. I just checked again with Steve. We certainly can sell the Formatt filters to Italy, Sweden or anywhere else in the world. Please send me your email contact so that Steve can quote you directly.

We may have cleared this up. Bogen is the US distributor for Formatt, and they cannot sell the filters anywhere but the US. Abel Cine Tech is NOT bound by this and we can sell the Formatt filters anywhere. So please direct your filter requests to me at my email address below and I assure you that we will send you out a proper quote. Steve tells me that since we announced this deal a few days ago we have sent out many, many quotes.

I haven't received a quote

We've received at least fifty requests and this is certainly not the only product we sell. Don't worry -- we'll get to you very soon.

Update:

We had a clerical error here at Abel. Stevie (not Steve) incorrectly was under the impression that the Formatt filters were NOT available for worldwide sale. This is why many of you have been receiving these emails. It took us a bit to track down the Steve/Stevie discrepancy, but now that we've cleared it up please rest assured that we can sell this product to anyone anywhere and are happy to do so. Please also know that while Stevie is going to go through her email to try to re-respond to you, it might be best for you to send in a new request for a quote if you received an email from Stevie stating that we could not sell to you.

And if anyone has any product they'd like us to quote, we would be happy to do so. There are specific manufacturers and specific territories where we cannot conduct business, but otherwise we'll certainly do it. And you can always send me an email and I will forward it directly to a sales rep.

Steve is sending out a battery of emails with quotes on Formatt filters along with other gear requested by redusers.

Quotes are dated. They include shipping info. They take into account the current exchange rate and other economic factors. Again, we're happy to quote you, but it is not our policy to post the price. That price could change as is always stated in the fine print of any contract, but with a proper quote you are informed exactly what those terms are and a timeframe under which we will honor that quote. If I said something today costs $50 and then next two months from now the dollar collapsed and suddenly our cost was $100, having $50 posted in a forum which is viewable by search engines such as Google would be a tremendous pain in the ass to deal with.

Mitch,
I requested a quote last week about the filters and have still not received a response. It's pretty frustrating when you don't post a price but don't respond in a reasonable time frame. I went ahead and placed an order with Pancro for $1170 for their IR filter package last week.

We all realize that shipping and currency rates change etc...but if you can't respond to the quote request, post a price. I just want to get some filters, I'm not looking for some specialized quote on a camera package or edit system....just a few filters. It seems like it would be time well spent to update a website with prices than send out 50 quotes.

I am still interested in the Formatt filters you sell mainly because Pancro said it would be 12 weeks for delivery, however I don't want to spend days or weeks trying to purchase them.

Please understand that this is not my decision, this is company policy. I'm not even in the Sales Dept. I'm the Applications Specialist, which means that I help people kit out their gear, achieve their technical goals and generally make stuff work. But your statements are not falling on deaf ears and I have forwarded your request to the appropriate people.

And Lee, you're quote will go out today.

Very well. I'm not upset about it, I just think it's important that you get some feedback to see how your system is working. I'll keep an eye out for the quote.

Hey Lee,

I had the same "problem" with Able Cine, but it's not really that, it's perspective. It's the difference between consumer and pro, I think. They're willing to delve deeper into your needs even before price is quoted. And once it is, I found it to be the same as the biggest box volume-seller, and that's more than you can usually hope for, with this level of service. The reason I'm writing this is because at first I was perturbed with this company's Modus Operandi, too. But you'll soon learn to love it, especially if they quote their perfectly 'game' prices on the site, and hint at the savings if you're a serious buyer. Able Cine: prices plus, please! ;>)

Of course, if no one responded to your request, well, all bets are off!

Mitch, a very simple solution would be to establish custom email addresses for each of your offers, and then have your server send out an auto-response email with the pricing. You control the pricing and can change it any time, your customers get instant quotations on pre-packaged deals. Just about any web/email server can be set up to send canned responses for certain addresses.

BTW - I got my quote and placed my order over the course of about 2 hours today. Great service.

I have worked with Abel in the past and have been extremely pleased and respected their professionalism and service. I used to own an Aaton XTR package and they were my primary source for any camera related need or service. I was actually very pleased to see them get involved with the RED. The simple part is, I just want some filters.

To make things easier for Abel, I went ahead and called in the order for my filter package, without even asking about the price.

Curran is my new favorite person.
