Just a note from the prvious tread "A working post workflow"
I don't know if the thread was going off track by not really understanding what is required as a workflow. Agreed that shake is a industry standard for compositing, vfx, but did not uderstand the reasoning to use it in the pipeline for editorial.
From my understanding this is fairy simple, even with apple color in the pipeline, since color can handle upto 2k. In terms of creating dpx files REDCINE IS FREE with the camera and is capable of outputing most formats (dpx, tiff, QT etc...)
Again correct me if I'm wrong. Here is how i understand the workflow.
Apple FCS 2 Finish
1) Shoot REDCODE
2) use fcp for editorial
3) Grade using color upto 2K
4) Output
Alternative you could
1) Shoot REDCODE
2) use fcp for editorial
3) Pull list and Use REDCINE to convert 4K to dpx, tiff, QT or what ever format required
4) conform (lustre, IQ pablo etc)
5) Grade
6) Output
IF YOU REQUIRE A COMPLETE (REDCODE) NATIVE WORKFLOW
1) Shoot REDCODE
2) use fcp for editorial
3) Grade NATIVE REDCODE using "Scratch", assimilate scratch suports REDCODE
4) Output
So i didn't thing shake is a real viable option for converting or editorial. REDCINE will do most of the work in creating the format you require for finishing. Hopefully (few releases down the road) Apple may have "color" support REDCODE native for grading???
